with Lauren Wash, M.A., a doctoral student in Clinical Psychology at UNC Chapel Hill and licensed mental health counselor. Approved for 1.5 NYS CE credits, this interactive seminar will explore the complexities of eating disorders across diverse communities, perfectionism, self-esteem, and psychosocial factors. Lauren will share insights from her research, including the cultural impacts of perfectionism, colorism, and hair politics among Black girls and women. With a background in Psychology and Gender Studies, Lauren brings extensive expertise in understanding and addressing eating disorders.

Dr. Irit Felsen will be presenting on the intergenerational transmission of parental/ancestral trauma in different groups, highlighting their commonalities as well as their unique differences. The lecture will focus on empirical research and clinical literature on survivors of the Holocaust and their families, as this is still the largest body of literature in this field. The mental health profession has yet to readily accepted the validity of the concept of historical trauma, however, the evidence from Holocaust families has opened the gate for research of historical trauma in other groups, including the Indigenous nations of America and the descendants of Black slaves in America.
