In this in-person workshop, Stephen Seligman, DMH, in conversation with Ed Corrigan, PhD, explores how the tiniest moments between patient and therapist—sometimes just a few seconds—can reveal deep, emotionally charged patterns of relating. Drawing on relational and object relations theories, infant observation research, and traditional Freudian concepts, they will use video of infant–parent interaction to illuminate how “ordinary” technical choices often reflect our participation in powerful, often unnoticed enactments, which can be deadening, upsetting, enlivening, or deeply transformative. 2 NYS CE Credits. |

This small-group seminar expands on the themes of Friday’s lecture, exploring how even seemingly ordinary clinical decisions often reflect deeper transference–countertransference dynamics. Together, we will examine how analysts and patients co-create micro-enactments—brief, seconds-long interactions that reveal which internal “characters” are coming alive in the therapeutic relationship. A case presentation will illustrate how these rapid, enactive processes shape the analytic encounter. Participation is limited to 25 people, and while attending the Friday lecture is encouraged, it is not required. |
