Family as Medicine: Conscious Parenting and Nervous System Support in Eating Disorder Recovery

Working with eating disorders often feels like a tug-of-war. You provide the best evidence-based care, but the progress stalls once the client returns to their home environment. To truly sustain recovery, we must move beyond the individual and address the relational biology of the family. This workshop goes beneath the surface of behavioral interventions to explore the neurobiology of the family unit. 2 CE Credits.

This theory-based and strategy-loaded presentation by two expert clinicians offers individual and couple therapists guiding principles for successfully working with neurodiverse couples. 3 NYS CE Credits.

Listening to Microenactments: A Clinical Workshop

This small-group seminar expands on the themes of Friday’s lecture, exploring how even seemingly ordinary clinical decisions often reflect deeper transference–countertransference dynamics. Together, we will examine how analysts and patients co-create micro-enactments—brief, seconds-long interactions that reveal which internal “characters” are coming alive in the therapeutic relationship. A case presentation will illustrate how these rapid, enactive processes shape the analytic encounter. Participation is limited to 25 people, and while attending the Friday lecture is encouraged, it is not required.

Microenactments as the Gateway to the Internal World: Integrating Object Relations and Relational Analysis with Infancy Research

In this in-person workshop, Stephen Seligman, DMH, in conversation with Ed Corrigan, PhD, explores how the tiniest moments between patient and therapist—sometimes just a few seconds—can reveal deep, emotionally charged patterns of relating. Drawing on relational and object relations theories, infant observation research, and traditional Freudian concepts, they will use video of infant–parent interaction to illuminate how “ordinary” technical choices often reflect our participation in powerful, often unnoticed enactments, which can be deadening, upsetting, enlivening, or deeply transformative. 2 NYS CE Credits.
