Supporting Vulnerable Communities: Clinical and Legal Perspectives in a Shifting Landscape

The Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy invites you to save the evening of Thursday, April 3 for a virtual panel presentation co-sponsored with the Integrative Trauma Program at NIP, entitled: Supporting Vulnerable Communities: Clinical and Legal Perspectives in a Shifting Landscape: As systems change, how can we better support those most at risk? This panel will explore the intersections of clinical and legal advocacy, offering insights into how we, as a community, can respond with knowledge, compassion, and action.
Presenters:
Veronica Gonzalez, Director of Client Services at Her Justice, leads strategies for supporting survivors of gender-based violence, trafficking, and trauma. She oversees social services, training, and intake systems.
Sophie Dalsimer, Co-Director of Health Justice at NYLPI, advocates for immigrant noncitizens' health and disability rights. With 10+ years of experience in legal defense, she fights healthcare barriers for vulnerable groups.
Navah Steiner, is a trauma-informed psychotherapist with 25+ years of experience. Certified in EMDR and IFS, they specialize in mental health, activism, LGBTQI affirmative therapy, depression, anxiety, parenting, and bereavement in dynamic, relational approaches.
M. Dru Levasseur, Esq. is a leading advisor and strategist with 25+ years in law, diversity & inclusion, advocacy, and philanthropy. He leads Dru Levasseur Consulting, LLC, and has directed Lambda Legal's Transgender Rights Project and served in major media roles.
Learning Objectives
1) Describe ways to appropriately advise and support clients who are impacted by new immigration enforcement policies.
2) Demonstrate understanding of newly developing risk factors for gender fluid folks and how to provide support at these historic, unfolding times.
3) Use documentation measures that protect clinicians and undocumented clients in the present and as things evolve.
4) List ways to advocate for care in the face of uncertain continuation of insurance coverage for the trans community.
