Why does a psychologist with a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Bowling Green State University also have an MBA in Public and Non Profit Management from Columbia? Curiosity, an understanding of data, and a zeal for results.

My academic research focused on trauma, combined with a decade of service at the Veterans Administration most recently in a residential PTSD program, have equipped me to understand trauma, its causes and effects, and how recovery and healing from trauma looks and feels in peoples' lives.​

For some clients, the traditional cognitive and exposure therapies, like PE, and CPT, worked. Even so, they generally required 12 or more weeks of treatment. For so many clients, these methods weren't an option, due to barriers like cost, fears of narrating the worst moments in their lives, or dysregulation due to their trauma.  So many clients needed something else. After researching alternative therapies, I found Multichannel Eye Movement Integration (MEMI). It's a relatively new protocol, published in 2021. I earnestly read the book, became certified, and actually found it to revolutionize my practice. Clients who had struggled with PTSD symptoms found significant relief. One of them gratefully told me, reflecting on the value of just a few sessions, "Now I have my life back."

I left the VA to become the first Clinical Psychologist MEMI trainer to share this innovation with others. I train MEMI in a two day class and I provide consultation as part of the certification process for general mental health providers and trauma specialists alike.
