DESCRIPTION:Harm Reduction Therapy in Clinical Practice with the LGBTQIA+ Community with Giorgio Handman\, LCSW\nMay 7\, 14\, 21 & 28\, 2025 from 6pm-8pm on Zoom\n8 NYS CE Credits! \nHarm Reduction is an essential practice for all social workers\, especially amidst an ongoing overdose crisis. increasing inequities\, and widespread misunderstanding of substance use and mental health issues. Within the LGBTQAI community substance use is amplified by higher rates of use\, which require specifically attuned harm reduction approaches. It is imperative for social workers to have a clear framework to support themselves and those they work with. This workshop will provide participants with a familiarity and understanding of the core principles of the Harm Reduction Model. Through experiential learning that will incorporate role plays\, dialogue\, and an overview of harm reduction principles\, participants will begin/continue to learn how to apply a harm reduction lens to their clinical work within the LGBTQIA community. This workshop will also explore and discuss complementary interventions that support harm reduction work in practice. There will be an opportunity for participants to share case examples\, engage in teaching/learning and receive peer support/feedback. Participants should come prepared for an interactive workshop that will invite you to self-reflect\, engage in partner shares\, and larger group practices. \nAbout the Presenter: \n\n\n\nGiorgio Handman is a social worker\, artist\, and a lover of harm reduction. He graduated from The Silberman School of Social Work in 2012. Giorgio completed a mindfulness facilitator training at the Engaged Mindfulness Institute and has incorporated mindfulness into his social work practice and harm reduction work with young people experiencing homelessness\, veterans\, people living with HIV/AIDS\, and individuals navigating substance use and currently practices harm reduction at the REACH clinic at Mount Sinai. Giorgio provides harm reduction trainings at hospitals\, shelters\, social work schools and social service agencies from New York to Australia. Giorgio is committed to working in community to promote wellness\, joy and harmony. \n\n\n\n\nAn important note about CEs: ICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\, mental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, and psychoanalysts through the New York Department of Education. She has also held leadership roles as Marketing Chair for the New York Chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals and as a Steering Committee member for the National Eating Disorders Association’s New York City Walk. \nShe is a frequent lecturer on topics related to eating disorders and substance abuse\, speaking to fellow clinicians\, middle and high school students\, and young adults in higher education. https://www.allisonjupiter.com/ \nCarrie D. Gottlieb\, Ph.D. received her B.A. in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. Following the completion of her doctoral studies\, she began her career as a research scientist and staff therapist in the Division of Substance Abuse at the New York State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. She later served as the Director of the Day Treatment Program at the Renfrew Center of New York\, a treatment center specializing in eating disorders. After her tenure at the Renfrew Center\, Dr. Gottlieb established a full-time private practice in New York City and now maintains offices in both New York City and New Jersey. \nDr. Gottlieb has extensive training and experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy\, Dialectical Behavior Therapy\, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy. \nHer post-graduate training includes: \n-Maternal Mental Health Certificate Program (Postpartum Support International\, 2021)\n– Fertility Counseling Postgraduate Course (Sharon Covington and Linda Applegarth\, 2021–2022)\n– Eating Disorders\, Compulsions\, and Addictions Service (EDCAS) at the William Alanson White Institute\, where she served on the steering committee and faculty from 2011 to 2022\n– Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis\, with an Advanced Specialization in Couple and Family Therapy (New York University) \nhttps://www.carriegottlieb.com/ \n \nReva Schlanger\, MS\, RD\, CDN received her BA from Stern University and MS in nutrition and food science from New York University. Reva currently specializes in counseling those who struggle with eating disorders and/or disordered eating in a private practice setting. Reva’s mission is to help clients heal their relationship with food and body. She has also had the privilege of helping clients optimize their nutrition status for conception. She is on the board of a nonprofit organization\, I Was Supposed to Have a Baby\, helping provide support and resources to those struggling with starting a family. In her free time\, Reva loves to cook and spend quality time with her family including her golden retriever\, Daisy. He regularly speaks to athletes\, coaches\, and sports medicine personnel about supporting the mental health of athletes\, disordered eating\, and unbalanced exercise in sport. Additionally\, Dr. Nickols consults with eating disorder professionals on best practices for integrating exercise during eating disorder treatment and is sensitive to the unique demands of eating disorder recovery in relation to training and competing in sport. \nCurrently\, Dr. Nickols is the Senior Program Advisor for Athlete EDGE at EDCare in Denver\, CO where specialized intensive eating disorder treatment is provided for athletes. He was previously the Director of the Victory Program\, the nation’s first residential eating disorder treatment facility for athletes\, from 2013-2021 at McCallum Place in St. Louis\, Missouri. \nDr. Nickols is a member of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s (USOPC) Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs) Expert Panel and is listed in the USOPC’s Mental Health Registry. He is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) and Consultant (CEDS-C) through the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (IAEDP) and holds a certificate in the Integrated Treatment of Eating Disorders from the Contemporary Psychotherapy’s Center for the Study of Anorexia & Bulimia (CSAB) in New York\, NY. He currently serves on the Clinical Advisory Council for the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA). \nDr. Nickols is currently on the steering committee for the Eating Disorders and Body Image Special Interest Group as part of the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Division 38 (Society for Health Psychology) and was on the steering committee for Safe Exercise at Every Stage’s (SEES) Athlete Guidelines. \nDr. Nickols is a member of the Big Sky Sport Psychology Group\, Collegiate Clinical/Counseling Sport Psychology Association (CCSPA)\, American Psychological Association’s Division 47 (Exercise & Sport Psychology)\, and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) Eating Disorders Special Interest Group. In addition to conducting individual\, couples and family therapy\, Dr. Jacobs leads CBT and DBT skills training groups. Dr. Jacobs uses her breadth and depth of knowledge to individually tailor treatment to the children\, adolescents and adults with whom she works. Dr. Jacobs received her undergraduate degree from Binghamton University\, her master’s degree (MHC) from Brooklyn College\, and her doctoral degree (Ph.D.) from Fairleigh Dickinson University. While practicing as a clinical psychologist at the Mount Sinai Health System\, Dr. Jacobs also previously held roles as the Program Director of the Mount Sinai Eating and Weight Disorder Program’s Adolescent Intensive Care program\, as well as Director of Outreach and Prevention. She helps clients (re)learn how to nourish themselves physically and spiritually. \nAnastasia offers nutrition therapy and somatic sessions that support healing from disordered eating and trauma. She uses her warmth as well as her own recovery from an eating disorder to lovingly challenge and empower clients to heal their own relationship to food\, while finding safety and regulation in their body and nervous system. \nAnastasia graduated from Stanford University with Honors in Psychology.  She went on to complete her Masters in Nutrition Education at Columbia University’s Teachers College. Anastasia has worked at both partial hospitalization and day treatment levels of care within eating disorder treatment program settings in NYC\, and was Monte Nido’s Manhattan’s first Lead Dietitian and Yoga Therapist. She has had a thriving private practice for over a decade. \nAnastasia received her yoga training at her beloved home studio Laughing Lotus where she taught dynamic\, musical vinyasa flow classes for many years. She has studied Ayurveda (India’s ancient holistic medicine system)\, Restorative Yoga\, Yoga Nidra\, Chakras and Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy and loves bringing these mind-body-energy practices into an integrative\, trauma-informed\, therapeutic treatment model. \nIn 2022\, Anastasia completed the three year certification program to become an SEP (Somatic Experiencing Practitioner). In addition to conducting individual\, couples and family therapy\, Dr. Jacobs leads CBT and DBT skills training groups. Dr. Jacobs uses her breadth and depth of knowledge to individually tailor treatment to the children\, adolescents and adults with whom she works. Dr. Jacobs received her undergraduate degree from Binghamton University\, her master’s degree (MHC) from Brooklyn College\, and her doctoral degree (Ph.D.) from Fairleigh Dickinson University. While practicing as a clinical psychologist at the Mount Sinai Health System\, Dr. Jacobs also previously held roles as the Program Director of the Mount Sinai Eating and Weight Disorder Program’s Adolescent Intensive Care program\, as well as Director of Outreach and Prevention.
