SUMMARY:Melting Away Resistance in Eating Disorder Treatment
DESCRIPTION:Hybrid: Virtual and In-Person\nMelting Away Resistance in Eating Disorder Treatment\n \n\nwith Donna Fish\, LCSW-R\nApproved for 2 NYS CE credits \nPatients who come to us with eating disorders initially want change and they are distressed. Most of the time\, however\, the powerful reasons for the development of their eating disorder\, will reemerge. This workshop will focus on the specific outcome and process resistances that are common to eating disorders\, and will offer therapists specific tools to use with patients at the outset so that the agenda for the work is established. Ways to positively reframe and maintain the advantages of symptoms will be identified. Additionally we will focus on ways to preserve safety and to offer the Gentle Ultimatum in order to effectively set up a treatment plan that takes pressure off of the therapist needing the patient to change. \nAbout the presenter:\nDonna Fish LCSW-R\, is a licensed clinical social worker and currently runs a private practice in Manhattan. Current faculty positions include the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia\, and adjunct at Ramapo College where she teaches the clinical course for 2nd year MSW students. Ms. Fish’s prior guest lecture and adjunct positions include Harvard Medical School Dept. of Continuing Ed.\, and Columbia University. Following the publication of her book “Take the Fight out of Food: How to Prevent and Solve Your Child’s Eating Problems”\, Ms. Fish has been a consultant to NYC’s Administration of Child Services\, Head Start\, Bellevue and Mount Sinai Hospital\, the Minnesota School Board\, and Renfrew Center. \nAn important note about CEs:\nICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\, mental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, psychologists and psychoanalysts through the New York Department of Education. If your license is from a different state\, please contact your state’s licensing board to find out if they will accept CE credits for New York State. If your license is from another state\, please enter your license number with your state in parenthesis\, ie 54321 (CA).\n__________________________________________________ \nOops! SUMMARY:Workshop on Fundamentals of Intimate Partner Violence and Domestic Violence w/ NYC Anti-Violence Project
DESCRIPTION:Hybrid: Virtual and In-Person\nIntroduction to Intimate Partner Violence and Domestic Violence\nwith a Special Focus on Its Impact in the Queer Community:\nBest Practices and Clinical Strategies\nPresented by\nAditi Bhattacharya and Kiara Montero Reyes\nNYC Anti-Violence Project\n \nFriday\, October 13\, 2023\, 12:00-3:00pm\nApproved for 3 NYS CE credits \nThe workshop will identify and define violence against Lesbian\, Gay\, Bisexual\, Transgender\, Queer\, and HIV-affected (LGBTQH) communities. We will explore how gender-based violence is a Queer issue and the unique ways that LGBTQH individuals experience violence at the intersection of actual and perceived identities\, including gender identity\, gender expression\, sexual orientation\, HIV status\, race\, ethnicity\, national origin\, language\, ability\, and religion. We will share insights gained from the work the Anti-Violence Project does with clients at intersections of marginalized identities and the systems they navigate at the micro\, mezzo\, and macro levels. The workshop will focus specifically on dynamics of relationship violence that challenge the binary ways of systemic and mainstream understanding of harm. \nWe will outline best practices when interacting with LGBTQH individuals in order to reduce the potential for re-victimization. We will specifically discuss strategies to explore relational dynamics from a harm reductionist and antioppressive framework that is affirming of identity and uplifts the nuances of LGBTQH survivorship and intersectional lived experience. SUMMARY:Principles & Practices of Sex Therapy with Ian Kerner (10 week-course)
DESCRIPTION:Virtual Workshop:\nThe Sexually Well-Informed Clinician: Principles & Practices of Sex Therapy\nIan Kerner\, PhD\, LMFT\n \n10 Fridays: September 22\, 29\, October 6\, 20\, 27\, November 3\, 10\, 17\, December 1\, 8\, 15* & 22*\, 2023 from 9:30AM-11:30AM on Zoom\n\n20 NYS and AASECT CE Credits\n*This is a 10 week-course with two extra dates reserved at the end in case of a class cancellation. \nSexuality and its expression are central to life\, yet it’s not uncommon for both client and therapist to collude in avoiding sex-related issues due to mutual discomfort. In an effort to bridge this gap and give clinicians the working tools to integrate sex therapy into their practices\, this 10 week workshop will highlight:\n \nThe history of sex therapy and the exponentially expanding science of sexuality\nCurrent tools for assessment\, case-formulation and treatment of common sexual issues through a range of different lenses (biological\, psychological\, relational\, intersectional).\nTherapeutic interventions\, including cognitive-behavioral\, psychodynamic\, psychoeducational\, and pharmacological approaches.\nCo-constructing homework assignments with patients that maintain the clinical thread in-between sessions and bring back useful data to keep working with.\nChallenging and deconstructing the limiting beliefs that patients often hold around sex.\n\nIn this 10-week workshop\, you will learn how to: \n\nConnect with your clients around “hard to talk about” sex topics\nIntegrate tools for intervening in common issues such as low desire\, mismatched libido\, arousal and orgasm problems and excessive porn use amongst others\nApply the latest research on spontaneous vs. responsive desire\, arousal non-concordance\, the dual-control model\, core erotic themes and more\n\nThroughout the course\, we will be paying close attention to the development and deepening of the therapeutic alliance and the processing of clinical material that happens both in the room and in between sessions through homework assignments. Case studies will be regularly referenced and discussed. \nBio: \nIan Kerner\, PhD\, LMFT is the co-founder and co-director of the Sex Therapy program at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy. He lectures frequently on topics related to sex and relationships\, with recent presentations for the Psychotherapy Networker Symposium\, the Ackerman Institute\, Tony Robbins\, The Society for Sex Therapy and Research and TED 2021. He is a regular contributor to CNN on the topic sexuality and relationships. Ian is the New York Times best-selling author of She Comes First (Harper Collins) which has been translated into more than a dozen languages and the newly released So Tell Me About the Last Time You Had Sex. \n__________________________________________________ \n  \nOops! SUMMARY:Barriers to Nourishment: How the wellness industrial complex\, Healthism\, fat phobia and Orthorexia ‘shape’ our treatment approaches to eating disorders with Asher Pandjiris\, LCSW
DESCRIPTION:2 NYC CE Credits.  \nThis workshop is being offered by PCGS and by the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia \nIn this workshop\, we will explore (via case presentations\, optional assigned readings and interactive lecture) the challenges posed when working with disordered eating in a clinical context. \nAsher will guide participants through a contemporary framework for treating disordered eating informed by attachment theory\, challenges to healthism and wellness industrial complex narratives and\, perhaps most critically\, the clinician’s countertransference. Special attention will be given to approaching work with LGBTQIA clients who struggle with concurrent gender dysphoria and disordered eating. \nThere will be plenty of time for questions. At the end of the workshop you will receive resources for deeper self-directed contemplation and study. \nAbout the Presenter: Asher Pandjiris\, LCSW (NY)\, LICSW (MA) \nPsychotherapist\, Podcaster\, Group Facilitator\, Clinical Supervisor and Co-Director of Kintsugi Therapist Collective \nI am a queer\, white\, non-binary parent. I am an art-maker\, an activist\, a psychotherapist\, a podcaster\, a group facilitator and supervisor to newer clinicians. I am someone living with auto-immune based chronic health issues. I am a scholar of critical\, psychoanalytic and mindfulness based theories. I currently reside on unceded Nipmuc and Pocumtuc land in what is colonially called Amherst\, MA. \nI believe that everyone deserves to be supported in dealing with their own legacies of trauma and psychic suffering so that we can more easefully navigate this neoliberal/capitalist/deeply racist\, transphobic and ableist heteropatriarchy that is traumatic for everyone\, especially folks who are highly sensitive and/or navigate multisystemic oppression. The programs and workshops I offer are aimed at supporting folks in these challenges. I love hosting the Living in this Queer Body podcast and facilitating programs on topics that I feel deeply passionate about. \nI received a Masters of Arts in Visual and Critical Studies in 2007 and a Masters of Social Work from Smith College in 2013. In 2017\, I completed a certificate program at The Stephen Mitchell Center for Relational Studies. Additionally\, I served as the Program Director at Balance Eating Disorder treatment center and have years of experience working with issues related to trauma and its impact on the body. I have published on the topics of intergenerational trauma transmission\, the treatment of eating disorders\, sexual assault in the music industry\, the wellness industrial complex and gender dysphoria. \n  \nClick Here for Tickets \n
