SUMMARY:Multichannel Eye Movement Integration - MEMI
DESCRIPTION:with Dr. Maria Gear Haugen \nApril 17-18\, 2026 from 9am-5pm \nIn-Person at ICP\n12.5 NYS CE Credits \nRegistration\nJoin us April 17–18\, 2026 for a Two-Day Multichannel Eye Movement Integration (MEMI) Training at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy in New York City. This immersive in-person training\, led by clinical psychologist Dr. Maria Haugen\, is designed for psychologists\, therapists\, counselors\, coaches\, and other helping professionals seeking powerful\, practical tools to deepen their trauma-informed practice \n\n\nPricing\n\nThe cost for this two-day training is a flat fee of $750. \nTo celebrate the official launch of our New York MEMI Cohort\, we are inviting our first 30 participants to join us as Founding Members. \nAs part of this inaugural group\, you’ll receive a $500 credit toward your registration—reducing the standard $750 rate to just $250. This special invitation is our way of investing in the leaders who will shape this new training\, and it remains available through March 18 (or until the 30 spots are filled!) Use code NYLAUNCH at checkout. \nClinicians may begin using MEMI immediately after completing the training. Additional consultation is required for those pursuing MEMI Certification and wishing to promote themselves as *certified providers*. \n \n\n\nPresenter\nDr. Maria Gear Haugen \nWhy does a psychologist with a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Bowling Green State University also have an MBA in Public and Non Profit Management from Columbia? Curiosity\, an understanding of data\, and a zeal for results. \nMy academic research focused on trauma\, combined with a decade of service at the Veterans Administration most recently in a residential PTSD program\, have equipped me to understand trauma\, its causes and effects\, and how recovery and healing from trauma looks and feels in peoples’ lives. \nFor some clients\, the traditional cognitive and exposure therapies\, like PE\, and CPT\, worked. Even so\, they generally required 12 or more weeks of treatment. For so many clients\, these methods weren’t an option\, due to barriers like cost\, fears of narrating the worst moments in their lives\, or dysregulation due to their trauma.  So many clients needed something else. After researching alternative therapies\, I found Multichannel Eye Movement Integration (MEMI). It’s a relatively new protocol\, published in 2021. I earnestly read the book\, became certified\, and actually found it to revolutionize my practice. Clients who had struggled with PTSD symptoms found significant relief. One of them gratefully told me\, reflecting on the value of just a few sessions\, “Now I have my life back.” \nI left the VA to become the first Clinical Psychologist MEMI trainer to share this innovation with others. I train MEMI in a two day class and I provide consultation as part of the certification process for general mental health providers and trauma specialists alike. Join me!  I believe it will change your practice. \nDisclosure: The presenter is certified by MEMI International as a trainer and provider. She receives compensation from individuals she trains in the MEMI protocol and for providing MEMI services. She does not receive compensation from MEMI International for trainings or certifications granted by the organization. No conflicts of interest are reported. \n\n\n  \n\n\nContinuing Education Credits\n\n\nAn important note about CEs: ICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\,\nmental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, creative arts therapists\, psychologists and psychoanalysts\nthrough the New York Department of Education.\nIf your license is from a different state\, please contact your state’s licensing board to find out if they will accept CE credits for New York State.\nIf your license is from another state\, please enter your license number with your state in parenthesis\, ie 54321 (CA).\nCE certificates will be emailed to you.\n\n\n\n\nPolicies\n\n\nAttendance: To receive NYS CE Credits\, you must attend all session(s) in full. Partial credit\, makeups\, or late arrivals/early departures are not permitted under New York State regulations. CE credits cannot be awarded for viewing recordings of the workshop.\nPhotography and Video Recording Notice: By attending this event\, you consent to photography\, audio recording\, and video recording that may be used for promotional purposes\, including in publications\, on websites\, and on social media platforms.\n\n\n\n\nFAQ\n\nWill a recording be available? The recording of workshops is subject to the discretion of ICP and the individual speaker. While clinical material is de-identified\, out of an abundance of caution regarding confidentiality and to encourage open discussion\, recordings are not guaranteed and may not always be available. Please also note that if you are seeking Continuing Education (CE) credits for a workshop\, you must attend the session live and be present for the entire duration. CE credits cannot be awarded for viewing recordings of the workshop. \nHow do I receive my CE certificate? \n\nCE certificates will be emailed to you in approximately 2–3 weeks. SUMMARY:Introducing a NeuroEnergetic approach to PTSD treatment
DESCRIPTION:with Dr. Alon Seifan \nWednesday\, March 4\, 2026\n6:30 pm-8:30 pm \nVirtual on Zoom or In-Person at ICP\n2 NYS CE Credits \nThis event will be recorded. If you’re unable to attend live\, please feel free to reach out to request the recording. Please note\, however\, that CE certificates can only be issued to participants who attend the event live.\n \nRegistration\nIn this presentation\, we review emerging data and the rationale behind the HB-01 Neuroenergetic protocol for PTSD under investigation at The Neuro Well\, which targets brain-energy signaling via astrocyte/neuro-metabolic dysregulation. We examine evidence linking PTSD to mitochondrial dysfunction and discuss how addressing adaptive hypometabolism — via widely available repurposed medications — may represent a promising avenue for patients with PTSD\, including treatment-resistant cases. Dr. Seifan will share results from observational studies reporting improvement in persistent cognitive symptoms (brain-fog) and emotional blunting. Attendees will be introduced to a neurobiology-informed framework for conceptualizing PTSD beyond fear circuitry\, consider which patients may be appropriate for neuroenergetic interventions\, and explore how this approach may complement existing evidence-based psychotherapy. \n\n\nPricing\n\n\nGeneral Admission $85\nICP Community $70\nICP Therapist $45\nCurrent Candidates/Graduate/Undergraduate Students $25\n\nICP Community includes current ICP faculty\, supervisors\, and alumni of ICP’s training programs. If the cost of this event presents a financial barrier\, please contact us at trauma@icpnyc.org. We are happy to offer a reduced rate when needed to ensure accessibility. \n\n\n\nPresenter\nDr. Alon Seifan\, located in New York\, is board-certified in Neurology\, with a UCNS-subspecialty in Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry. He completed his neurology residency at the University of Miami and his fellowship in the Division of Aging & Dementia of Columbia University. He currently serves as the Chief Science Officer at HB Biotech and runs his practice\, Cognitive Neurology Consultants. Dr. Seifan treats patients of all ages\, with any neurological or psychiatric symptom\, regardless of diagnosis or insurance. He has contributed significant research publications in his field and has been involved in several clinical trials. His notable prior recognitions include the Leon Levy Neuroscience Fellowship Award and the Community Engagement Award from Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Seifan is currently developing a novel\, brain-healthy medication for treatment of panic disorder\, PTSD and other stress-related conditions that works by restoring the brain’s natural energy balance. \n\n\n  \n\n\nContinuing Education Credits\n\n\nAn important note about CEs: ICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\,\nmental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, creative arts therapists\, psychologists and psychoanalysts\nthrough the New York Department of Education.\nIf your license is from a different state\, please contact your state’s licensing board to find out if they will accept CE credits for New York State.\nIf your license is from another state\, please enter your license number with your state in parenthesis\, ie 54321 (CA).\nCE certificates will be emailed to you. That is\, that transference-countertransference processes are present in most clinical activity\, even when what’s going on seems\nordinary. A case presentation will highlight how analysts and patients engage in these ongoing enactive processes in very brief time frames of seconds to minutes. This seminar will apply and elaborate the themes of the Friday evening lecture on microenactments and the internal world \n\n\nPresenters\n\nStephen Seligman\, DMH is Clinical Professor\, Department of Psychiatry at the University of California\, San Francisco and at the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis; Training and Supervising Analyst\, San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California. He is the author of Relationships in Development: Infancy\, Intersubjectivity\, Attachment (Routledge\, 2018); co-editor of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health: Core Concepts and Clinical Practice; and Editor Emeritus of Psychoanalytic Dialogues. Dr. Seligman is the author of over 100 articles\, chapters and reviews\, many of which take up the intersection of infancy\, the infantile and psychoanalytic theory and practice. He has been involved in the development of the original “Fraiberg model” of infant-parent psychotherapy for several decades.\n\n\n\n\nLaura Mackall\, LCSW\, is a psychotherapist in private practice in New York City and a psychoanalytic candidate at the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy. She holds an MSW from New York University and a BFA from\nPratt Institute. Previously\, Mackall spent over a decade in leadership roles in the contemporary art world\, a background that informs her interest in creativity\, identity\, and complex organizational dynamics.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContinuing Education Credits\n\n\nAn important note about CEs: ICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\,\nmental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, creative arts therapists\, psychologists and psychoanalysts\nthrough the New York Department of Education.\nIf your license is from a different state\, please contact your state’s licensing board to find out if they will accept CE credits for New York State.\nIf your license is from another state\, please enter your license number with your state in parenthesis\, ie 54321 (CA).\nCE certificates will be emailed to you. These interactions can be upsetting and deadening\, enlivening and transformative. But even those that seem “just routine” can disclose much meaning: More often than we realize\, ordinary “technical” choices reflect our participation in enactments that can easily go unnoticed. Relational and object relations theories\, infant observation research\, traditional Freudian concepts will be taken up\, and video of infant-parent interaction will be offered. \n\n\nPresenters\n\nStephen Seligman\, DMH is Clinical Professor\, Department of Psychiatry at the University of California\, San Francisco and at the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis; Training and Supervising Analyst\, San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California. He has been supervising and teaching there for decades\, focusing on Winnicott\, the British middle school\, and infant research. He is the author\, with Pearl-Ellen Gordon\, of The Mind Object: Precocity and Pathology of Self-Sufficiency (1995). More recently Ed organized and edited Adam Phillips’ The Cure for Psychoanalysis\, which includes essays by members of the ICP community. SUMMARY:Clinical Implications of Intergenerational Trauma
DESCRIPTION:Clinical Implications of Intergenerational Trauma\nwith Irit Felsen\, PhD\nThursday\, October 23\, 2025\n5:30 – 7:30 PM EST\nin person\, at ICP\n(this event won’t be streamed or recorded)\n\n\n2 Continuing Education Credits. \n\nThis is a follow-up to an event that took place earlier this year\, but attendance at the previous event is not required. You’re more than welcome to join us even if you missed part one!\nIn the second part of her presentation about intergenerational transmission of parental/ancestral trauma\, Irit Felsen\, PhD will be focusing on clinical implications for working with individuals from trauma-exposed groups. Recent approaches increasingly recognize the importance of historical trauma and of intergenerational processes as these shape the content and expression of particular psychological themes\, vulnerabilities and resiliencies in the descendants of trauma\, and their responses to current traumatic experiences and reminders of ancestral trauma.  Current wars and catastrophes\, national and international political upheaval\, and the erosion of democratic norms have intensely impacted patients and therapists in recent years and require the capacity to address in therapy the fear and anxiety in response to these national and international affairs\, the impact of these experiences on the therapeutic dyad\, and how both patient and therapist are influenced by legacies of historical trauma.  A trauma-focused framework will be presented\, addressing specific clinical factors and interventions for working with individuals whose presenting problems might also be rooted in intergenerationally transmitted traumatic experiences.  Identifying\, comprehending\, and working with the reverberations of intergenerational transmission of trauma might be critical for adequate treatment\, for symptom reduction and for enhancing patients’ resilience and well-being in trying times. \n\n\nIrit Felsen\, PhD is a clinical psychologist specializing in the effects of trauma and traumatic loss and intergenerational transmission of both trauma and resiliencies in families. \nDr. Felsen is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia University and had been an assistant professor at Yeshiva University Graduate School of Psychology for 14 years. She obtained her MA in Clinical Psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem\, her PhD the University of Hamburg\, Germany\, and her postdoctoral training at Yale University. Dr. Felsen worked in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings\, and since 9/11\, has served on a national emergency response team. Dr. Felsen is a Fellow of Division 56 (Trauma Division) in the APA\, chair of the Trauma Working Group of the NGO on Mental Health in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations\, a member of the National Center for Crisis Management and the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress\, and she was chair of the Work Group on Older Adults in the Interdivision APA Covid-19 Task Force. \nDr. Felsen’s research papers have been published in peer reviewed publications including American Journal of Orthopsychiatry; Psychoanalytic Psychology; Psychoanalysis\, Self and Context; American Journal of Psychiatry; Psychotherapy Research; Psychological Trauma: Theory\, Research\, Practice\, Policy; American Psychology; and others. She has contributed multiple book chapters\, among which a chapter in Charles Figley’s “Pandemic Providers” (2023)\, and a most recent one in “Routledge International Handbook of Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Descendants of Holocaust Survivors” (2024). She maintains a private practice in Englewood\, NJ. Dr. \nFelsen’s art has been featured in art exhibitions in Hamburg\, London\, and was chosen as the emblem of the exhibition of the Arts Council of the Morris Area in 2010. \n\nGeneral Admission: $75\nICP-Affiliated Professionals: $60\nCurrent ICP Therapists: $40\nCurrent Candidate/Graduate or Undergraduate Student: $25\n\nAn important note about CEs: ICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\, mental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, and psychoanalysts through the New York Department of Education. SUMMARY:In-Person Lecture: Home is a Foreign Place: Immigrant Journeys
DESCRIPTION:SICP In-Person Lecture: \nHome is a Foreign Place: Immigrant Journeys\nwith Shari Appollon\, LCSW\, and Lilly Pavlinovic\, PhD\,\nwith Samanta Batra Mehta\, MS\, as discussant\n  \nThrough an intimate exploration of the immigrant experience\, psychoanalysts Shari Appollon\, LCSW\, and Lilly Pavlinovic\, PhD\, speak to journeys of dislocation and the search for home. Drawing on their clinical work and personal histories\, both speakers delve into the emotional mapping of migration\, examining themes of loss\, longing\, identity-formation and transformation. Shari Appollon’s paper contends with the impact of inter-generational trauma and unconscious elements of melancholia through the voices of her Haitian mother and grandmother and the effects of colonization\, and political and economic instability on their homeland. Lilly Pavlinovic’s paper explores the tender and charged analytic space between the psychoanalyst and her patient against the backdrop of a shared language\, and a shared culture torn apart by war and the traumatic splitting of the former Yugoslavia. The analyst in these papers is a transitional object\, linking past to present. The cocoon of the treatment room is a space to articulate profound loss\, re-configure alienation and reconstruct the irreconcilable in an attempt to suture the wounds of history. \nFriday\, April 25\, 2025\, from 7 to 9 pm\, in person at ICP\n Refreshments and conversation at 9 pm following the lecture\nApproved for 2 NYS CE Credits!\n  \n\nShari Appollon\, LCSW\, is a Haitian-American psychoanalyst\, and a graduate of the National Institute for the Psychotherapies and of the One Year Program at The Stephen Mitchell Relational Study Center. Shari is in private practice in Brooklyn\, NY. \n\nDr. Lilly Pavlinovic\, clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst\, is a graduate of the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis\, She received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Derner Institute at Adelphi University\, and her M.A. in Psychoanalytic Studies from the New School.
