About

PCGS (formerly known as GLAP) provides affirmative, supportive psychotherapy to the LGBTQ community and recognizes the range and diversity of gender and sexuality within all of us. We will develop a personal treatment plan for you and choose an appropriate therapist. During the initial interview, your intake counselor will discuss the selection of a therapist, the frequency of sessions, and fees. Our fees are based on a sliding scale. Your treatment begins within two weeks after your initial phone call. Your call is strictly confidential.

Our Mission

The Psychotherapy Center for Gender and Sexuality (PCGS), a division of The Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP), was founded in 1997 with a two-fold mission: to offer affordable, affirmative psychoanalytic psychotherapy to members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) communities; and to sensitize and educate mental health professionals providing treatment.

We have succeeded on both fronts. While PCGS has made an incalculable difference in the lives of LGBTQ New Yorkers, we have continued to improve the quality of mental health services available to these individuals by training gay-affirmative psychotherapists in weekly case supervision with master clinicians.
