SUMMARY:Talking about Sex in Psychotherapy: Why it Matters\, How and When to do it
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, December 11th\, 2025\n7:00–9:00 PM EST\nVIRTUAL ON ZOOM\n$80 General Admission\n$60 ICP Community\n$45 ICP Therapist\n$25 ICP Candidates and Graduate/Undergraduate Students \n > > Register\nTalking about Sex in Psychotherapy:\nWhy it Matters\, How and When to Do It\nwith Kathryn S.K. Hall\, Ph.D\n\n\nThis event is approved for\n2 NYS CE Credits \nSex is a central part of the human experience\, yet it remains one of the most elusive topics in psychotherapy. This workshop explores why talking about sex is not just important\, but often essential to deep\, effective therapeutic work. When approached thoughtfully\, discussions about sexuality can strengthen the therapeutic alliance\, reinforce boundaries\, and invite access to core aspects of a patient’s inner world\, including identity\, intimacy\, shame\, desire\, and relational dynamics. \nWe will examine how conversations about sex can help move therapy forward when patients are stuck\, evasive\, or when deeper psychological material is trying to emerge. The workshop will also offer practical guidance on how to initiate and navigate these conversations—whether during an initial evaluation or as part of ongoing psychotherapy. \nThrough detailed clinical case discussions and open dialogue\, participants will learn to recognize opportunities to bring sexuality into the room in ways that are clinically meaningful and ethically sound. Questions\, discussion\, and reflection on participants’ own clinical experiences will be welcomed throughout the presentation. \nAbout the Presenter:  \nKathryn S.K. Hall\, Ph.D.\, is a licensed psychologist with over four decades of experience in sex therapy and research. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from McGill University in Montreal\, Canada\, and has since become a leading voice in the field of sex therapy. \nDr. Hall has lectured and written extensively on topics related to sexual health\, psychotherapy\, and the cultural influences on sexual well-being. Her latest book\, Talking About Sex in Psychotherapy\, is set for release by the American Psychological Association Press in November 2025. She also maintains an active private practice specializing in the treatment of sexual concerns and sits on the Special Classification Review Board\, a panel of experts appointed by the Governor of New Jersey responsible for overseeing treatment progress and determining parole readiness for incarcerated sex offenders. \nShe is passionate about mentorship\, and she provides training in sex therapy for both emerging and experienced clinicians. Dr. Hall also serves as the Book Review Editor for the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy and is a Past President of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research. \n\nICP Community includes current ICP faculty\, supervisors\, and alumni of ICP’s training programs. Please note that for alumni to qualify for this rate\, you must have graduated within 5 years.\nIf the cost of this event presents a financial barrier\, please contact us at stp@icpnyc.org. SUMMARY:Embrace Pleasure: How Psychedelics Can Heal Our Sexuality
DESCRIPTION:Embrace Pleasure: How Psychedelics Can Heal Our Sexuality\nAn Interactive Workshop on Sex\, Psychedelics\, and The Power of Pleasure\n\nwith DeeDee Goldpaugh\, LCSW\nThursday\, October 9\, 2025 from 7:00PM-9:00PM on Zoom\n2 NYS CE and AASECT Credits! \n\nAfter several decades of clinical research into their therapeutic potential\, psychedelic medicines in clinical contexts stand to shift the paradigm of how we have approached the treatment of depression\, anxiety\, trauma\, and other mental health issues. However research into the impact of psychedelics on sexuality is just beginning. In this interactive presentation\, clinician and author Dee Dee Goldpaugh will outline the emerging research on psychedelics and sexuality\, but go far beyond that to ask questions about how prohibiting pleasure has molded our current drug laws\, why pleasure is omitted from the narrative about psychedelic healing\, and how psychedelics can help us to embrace our erotic power for optimal sexual experiences and sexual self-actualization.  \nBased on their new book\, Embrace Pleasure: How Psychedelics Can Heal Our Sexuality\, Dee Dee will provide practical education on psychedelic preparation and integration in sex therapy practice\, explore how different psychedelic medicines impact sexual satisfaction and pleasure\, and offer a new framework for working with sexual trauma. Grounded in research\, this presentation will also strive to critique the neo-liberal and capitalist structures that exist in our society and in psychedelic science that prevent us from embracing pleasure\, creating community\, and engaging in meaningful erotic connection while centering on the uplifting message that pleasure (and psychedelics medicines) have the power to heal us.  \nAbout the Presenter: \nDee Dee Goldpaugh\, LCSW is a psychotherapist\, consultant\, educator\, and author. They are the Clinical Director of Chrysalis Integrative Psychotherapy\, the Women\, Gender Diversity\, and Sexual Minorities Advisor for The Chacruna Institute for Psychedelic Plant Medicines\, and they are part of the Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy team at the Woodstock Therapy Center. Dee Dee has authored the first paper to appear in an academic journal describing Psychedelic Integration Psychotherapy techniques that incorporate spirituality for sexual trauma survivors. They also served as a Clinical Supervisor for the EMBARK approach to Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy in addition to having facilitated numerous Ketamine-Assisted Transformational retreats. Dee Dee has been a frequent presenter at international conferences including the Interdisciplinary Conference on Psychedelic Research\, Psychedelic Culture\, Psychedelic Science. They have over seventeen years of professional clinical experience and training in diverse modalities including EMDR\, Internal Family System\, Sex Therapy\, psychodynamic\, and transpersonal therapy models and are the author of the book Embrace Pleasure: How Psychedelics Can Heal Our Sexuality.

SUMMARY:Navigating Asexuality in Clinical Practice
DESCRIPTION:Virtual Workshop:\nNavigating Asexuality in Clinical Practice\n\nwith Dr. Morag A. Yule\, C. Psych\n  \nWednesday\, January 31\, 2024; 7:00pm-9:00pm on Zoom\nThis event will be approved for 2 NYS and 2 AASECT CE credits \nAsexuality is characterized by a persistent lack of sexual attraction\, and asexuality is often an intrinsic part of an individual’s identity. Asexual people\, often referred to as “aces\,” may have romantic feelings and the spectrum of asexuality includes various identities and differing levels of interest in sexual activity. \nThis presentation delves into the understanding and incorporation of asexual identities in clinical practice\, aiming to enhance practitioners’ competency in addressing the unique needs of asexual individuals and their partners. It begins by defining asexuality\, challenging common misconceptions\, and highlighting the diversity within the asexual community. The talk emphasizes the importance of differentiating asexuality from other conditions\, such as hypoactive sexual desire disorder\, and the implications for misdiagnosis and treatment. \nCase studies and interactive discussions will facilitate a deeper understanding of how to support asexual individuals through informed\, empathetic\, and tailored care. By the end of this session\, participants will be equipped with practical tools and insights to navigate asexuality in their clinical work. \nAbout the presenter: \nDr. Morag Yule received her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of British Columbia (UBC) and completed her clinical residency at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto. She is the founder and director of Ontario Sex Therapy\, a private practice in Toronto. Dr. Yule has been involved in sex research since 2005 and been providing psychotherapy and assessments for sexual difficulties since 2010. \nShe has published and presented widely in sexuality and was awarded multiple academic honours and awards throughout her graduate training. Dr. Yule is especially recognized for her ground-breaking studies of asexuality and its assessment. \nDr. Yule provides psychological services for a broad range of sexual issues. She has extensive training and experience treating sexual dysfunction\, including problems with sexual desire\, difficulty experiencing sexual arousal and orgasm\, and sexual pain. She also works with those exploring sexual identity\, struggling with hypersexuality/out of control sexual behavior\, navigating atypical/unique sexual interests\, and moving past difficult sexual experiences and sexual trauma. In addition to her specialization in treating sexual difficulties\, has a particular focus on treating OCD with sexuality-related themes such as pedophilia OCD (POCD) and sexual orientation OCD (SO-OCD). She works with both individuals and couples and people of all genders and sexual orientations. \nDr. Yule is President of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research (SSTAR). She is also a full member of SSTAR\, the International Academy of Sex Research (IASR) and the Canadian Sex Research Forum (CSRF) as well as the Ontario Psychological Association (OPA) and the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO). \n__________________________________________________ \nSignup for the STP Mailing List by Clicking Here\nWant to learn more about our Certificate in Sex Therapy? SUMMARY:Summer Sexuality Series - The Incredible Lightness of Becoming Erotic in Later Life: Lessons from Octogenarians (A Four Part Series)
DESCRIPTION:Summer Sexuality Series:\nThe Incredible Lightness of Becoming Erotic in Later Life:\nLessons from Octogenarians\n\n \nwith Suzanne Iasenza\, PhD\nWednesdays\, June 7\, 14\, 21 & 28\, 2023; 1:45-3:15pm EST on Zoom\n6 AASECT + 6 NYS CE credits available. \nNOTE: This is a 4-part series\, registration is closed. \nU.S. Culture contains a plethora of desexualizing narratives about aging. Therapists and patients often buy into myths believing sex in later life is destined to be limited and disappointing. After years of substandard or non-existent sex in long-term relationships some seniors enter couple therapy feeling hopeless and skeptical that erotic life is possible especially as they experience the physical impact of aging. \nThis presentation will discuss how to identify and transform limiting cultural and personal narratives\, thus creating potential erotic space within which couples discover erotic lightness and play. Case material will illustrate how to integrate new narrative frames and technique into therapy with senior couples. \nAbout the Presenter:\nSUZANNE IASENZA\, PhD is on the faculties of the Adelphi University Derner Institute’s Postgraduate Program in Psychoanalysis\, and the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP)\, where she also serves as Co-Director of the Sex Therapy Training Program (STP).
