SUMMARY:Multichannel Eye Movement Integration - MEMI
DESCRIPTION:with Dr. Maria Gear Haugen \nApril 17-18\, 2026 from 9am-5pm \nIn-Person at ICP\n12.5 NYS CE Credits \nRegistration\nJoin us April 17–18\, 2026 for a Two-Day Multichannel Eye Movement Integration (MEMI) Training at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy in New York City. This immersive in-person training\, led by clinical psychologist Dr. Maria Haugen\, is designed for psychologists\, therapists\, counselors\, coaches\, and other helping professionals seeking powerful\, practical tools to deepen their trauma-informed practice \n\n\nPricing\n\nThe cost for this two-day training is a flat fee of $750. \nTo celebrate the official launch of our New York MEMI Cohort\, we are inviting our first 30 participants to join us as Founding Members. \nAs part of this inaugural group\, you’ll receive a $500 credit toward your registration—reducing the standard $750 rate to just $250. This special invitation is our way of investing in the leaders who will shape this new training\, and it remains available through March 18 (or until the 30 spots are filled!) Use code NYLAUNCH at checkout. \nClinicians may begin using MEMI immediately after completing the training. Additional consultation is required for those pursuing MEMI Certification and wishing to promote themselves as *certified providers*. \n \n\n\nPresenter\nDr. Maria Gear Haugen \nWhy does a psychologist with a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Bowling Green State University also have an MBA in Public and Non Profit Management from Columbia? Curiosity\, an understanding of data\, and a zeal for results. \nMy academic research focused on trauma\, combined with a decade of service at the Veterans Administration most recently in a residential PTSD program\, have equipped me to understand trauma\, its causes and effects\, and how recovery and healing from trauma looks and feels in peoples’ lives. \nFor some clients\, the traditional cognitive and exposure therapies\, like PE\, and CPT\, worked. Even so\, they generally required 12 or more weeks of treatment. For so many clients\, these methods weren’t an option\, due to barriers like cost\, fears of narrating the worst moments in their lives\, or dysregulation due to their trauma.  So many clients needed something else. After researching alternative therapies\, I found Multichannel Eye Movement Integration (MEMI). It’s a relatively new protocol\, published in 2021. I earnestly read the book\, became certified\, and actually found it to revolutionize my practice. Clients who had struggled with PTSD symptoms found significant relief. One of them gratefully told me\, reflecting on the value of just a few sessions\, “Now I have my life back.” \nI left the VA to become the first Clinical Psychologist MEMI trainer to share this innovation with others. I train MEMI in a two day class and I provide consultation as part of the certification process for general mental health providers and trauma specialists alike. Join me!  I believe it will change your practice. \nDisclosure: The presenter is certified by MEMI International as a trainer and provider. She receives compensation from individuals she trains in the MEMI protocol and for providing MEMI services. She does not receive compensation from MEMI International for trainings or certifications granted by the organization.
Maria Haugen\, is designed for psychologists\, therapists\, counselors\, coaches\, and other helping professionals seeking powerful\, practical tools to deepen their trauma-informed practice \n\n\nPricing\n\n\n$750\n\nTo celebrate the official launch of our New York MEMI Cohort\, we are inviting our first 30 participants to join us as Founding Members. \n\n\n\n\n\nPresenter\nDr. \n\nDisclosure: The presenter is certified by MEMI International as a trainer and provider. She receives compensation from individuals she trains in the MEMI protocol and for providing MEMI services. She does not receive compensation from MEMI International for trainings or certifications granted by the organization. SUMMARY:Introducing a NeuroEnergetic approach to PTSD treatment
DESCRIPTION:with Dr. Alon Seifan \nWednesday\, March 4\, 2026\n6:30 pm-8:30 pm \nVirtual on Zoom or In-Person at ICP\n2 NYS CE Credits \nThis event will be recorded. If you’re unable to attend live\, please feel free to reach out to request the recording. Please note\, however\, that CE certificates can only be issued to participants who attend the event live.\n \nRegistration\nIn this presentation\, we review emerging data and the rationale behind the HB-01 Neuroenergetic protocol for PTSD under investigation at The Neuro Well\, which targets brain-energy signaling via astrocyte/neuro-metabolic dysregulation. We examine evidence linking PTSD to mitochondrial dysfunction and discuss how addressing adaptive hypometabolism — via widely available repurposed medications — may represent a promising avenue for patients with PTSD\, including treatment-resistant cases. Dr. Seifan will share results from observational studies reporting improvement in persistent cognitive symptoms (brain-fog) and emotional blunting. Attendees will be introduced to a neurobiology-informed framework for conceptualizing PTSD beyond fear circuitry\, consider which patients may be appropriate for neuroenergetic interventions\, and explore how this approach may complement existing evidence-based psychotherapy. \n\n\nPricing\n\n\nGeneral Admission $85\nICP Community $70\nICP Therapist $45\nCurrent Candidates/Graduate/Undergraduate Students $25\n\nICP Community includes current ICP faculty\, supervisors\, and alumni of ICP’s training programs. SUMMARY:Clinical Implications of Intergenerational Trauma
DESCRIPTION:Clinical Implications of Intergenerational Trauma\nwith Irit Felsen\, PhD\nThursday\, October 23\, 2025\n5:30 – 7:30 PM EST\nin person\, at ICP\n(this event won’t be streamed or recorded)\n\n\n2 Continuing Education Credits. \n\nThis is a follow-up to an event that took place earlier this year\, but attendance at the previous event is not required. You’re more than welcome to join us even if you missed part one!\nIn the second part of her presentation about intergenerational transmission of parental/ancestral trauma\, Irit Felsen\, PhD will be focusing on clinical implications for working with individuals from trauma-exposed groups. Recent approaches increasingly recognize the importance of historical trauma and of intergenerational processes as these shape the content and expression of particular psychological themes\, vulnerabilities and resiliencies in the descendants of trauma\, and their responses to current traumatic experiences and reminders of ancestral trauma.  Current wars and catastrophes\, national and international political upheaval\, and the erosion of democratic norms have intensely impacted patients and therapists in recent years and require the capacity to address in therapy the fear and anxiety in response to these national and international affairs\, the impact of these experiences on the therapeutic dyad\, and how both patient and therapist are influenced by legacies of historical trauma.  A trauma-focused framework will be presented\, addressing specific clinical factors and interventions for working with individuals whose presenting problems might also be rooted in intergenerationally transmitted traumatic experiences.  Identifying\, comprehending\, and working with the reverberations of intergenerational transmission of trauma might be critical for adequate treatment\, for symptom reduction and for enhancing patients’ resilience and well-being in trying times. \n\n\nIrit Felsen\, PhD is a clinical psychologist specializing in the effects of trauma and traumatic loss and intergenerational transmission of both trauma and resiliencies in families. \nDr. Felsen is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia University and had been an assistant professor at Yeshiva University Graduate School of Psychology for 14 years. She obtained her MA in Clinical Psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem\, her PhD the University of Hamburg\, Germany\, and her postdoctoral training at Yale University. Dr. Felsen worked in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings\, and since 9/11\, has served on a national emergency response team. Dr. Felsen is a Fellow of Division 56 (Trauma Division) in the APA\, chair of the Trauma Working Group of the NGO on Mental Health in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations\, a member of the National Center for Crisis Management and the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress\, and she was chair of the Work Group on Older Adults in the Interdivision APA Covid-19 Task Force. \nDr. Felsen’s research papers have been published in peer reviewed publications including American Journal of Orthopsychiatry; Psychoanalytic Psychology; Psychoanalysis\, Self and Context; American Journal of Psychiatry; Psychotherapy Research; Psychological Trauma: Theory\, Research\, Practice\, Policy; American Psychology; and others. She has contributed multiple book chapters\, among which a chapter in Charles Figley’s “Pandemic Providers” (2023)\, and a most recent one in “Routledge International Handbook of Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Descendants of Holocaust Survivors” (2024). She maintains a private practice in Englewood\, NJ. Dr. \nFelsen’s art has been featured in art exhibitions in Hamburg\, London\, and was chosen as the emblem of the exhibition of the Arts Council of the Morris Area in 2010. \n\nGeneral Admission: $75\nICP-Affiliated Professionals: $60\nCurrent ICP Therapists: $40\nCurrent Candidate/Graduate or Undergraduate Student: $25\n\nAn important note about CEs: ICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\, mental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, and psychoanalysts through the New York Department of Education. SUMMARY:Embrace Pleasure: How Psychedelics Can Heal Our Sexuality
DESCRIPTION:Embrace Pleasure: How Psychedelics Can Heal Our Sexuality\nAn Interactive Workshop on Sex\, Psychedelics\, and The Power of Pleasure\n\nwith DeeDee Goldpaugh\, LCSW\nThursday\, October 9\, 2025 from 7:00PM-9:00PM on Zoom\n2 NYS CE and AASECT Credits! \n\nAfter several decades of clinical research into their therapeutic potential\, psychedelic medicines in clinical contexts stand to shift the paradigm of how we have approached the treatment of depression\, anxiety\, trauma\, and other mental health issues. However research into the impact of psychedelics on sexuality is just beginning. In this interactive presentation\, clinician and author Dee Dee Goldpaugh will outline the emerging research on psychedelics and sexuality\, but go far beyond that to ask questions about how prohibiting pleasure has molded our current drug laws\, why pleasure is omitted from the narrative about psychedelic healing\, and how psychedelics can help us to embrace our erotic power for optimal sexual experiences and sexual self-actualization.  \nBased on their new book\, Embrace Pleasure: How Psychedelics Can Heal Our Sexuality\, Dee Dee will provide practical education on psychedelic preparation and integration in sex therapy practice\, explore how different psychedelic medicines impact sexual satisfaction and pleasure\, and offer a new framework for working with sexual trauma. Grounded in research\, this presentation will also strive to critique the neo-liberal and capitalist structures that exist in our society and in psychedelic science that prevent us from embracing pleasure\, creating community\, and engaging in meaningful erotic connection while centering on the uplifting message that pleasure (and psychedelics medicines) have the power to heal us.  \nAbout the Presenter: \nDee Dee Goldpaugh\, LCSW is a psychotherapist\, consultant\, educator\, and author. They are the Clinical Director of Chrysalis Integrative Psychotherapy\, the Women\, Gender Diversity\, and Sexual Minorities Advisor for The Chacruna Institute for Psychedelic Plant Medicines\, and they are part of the Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy team at the Woodstock Therapy Center. Dee Dee has authored the first paper to appear in an academic journal describing Psychedelic Integration Psychotherapy techniques that incorporate spirituality for sexual trauma survivors. They also served as a Clinical Supervisor for the EMBARK approach to Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy in addition to having facilitated numerous Ketamine-Assisted Transformational retreats. Dee Dee has been a frequent presenter at international conferences including the Interdisciplinary Conference on Psychedelic Research\, Psychedelic Culture\, Psychedelic Science. They have over seventeen years of professional clinical experience and training in diverse modalities including EMDR\, Internal Family System\, Sex Therapy\, psychodynamic\, and transpersonal therapy models and are the author of the book Embrace Pleasure: How Psychedelics Can Heal Our Sexuality.

SUMMARY:The Importance of Recognizing Different Trauma Syndromes and Their Neurobiological Differences
DESCRIPTION:The Importance of Recognizing Different Trauma Syndromes and Their Neurobiological Differences with Antonieta Contreras\n \n\n\nThursday\, May 29th\, 2025 \n5:30 – 7:30 pm EST \nvirtual on Zoom\n2 CE credits \n  \nThis 2-hour workshop explores how trauma rewires the brain at different developmental stages and under various circumstances\, showing that not all trauma fits the PTSD diagnosis. \nWe’ll examine trauma’s impact on the nervous system\, common misdiagnoses\, and differences between early neglect\, adolescent violence\, and systemic adversity. Participants will learn how factors like age\, type\, intensity\, and timing of trauma shape symptoms and guide intervention. Understanding these distinctions improves treatment by aligning interventions with each individual’s neurobiological adaptations. \nThe workshop emphasizes the importance of recognizing diverse trauma syndromes to support deeper healing and recovery. \nAntonieta Contreras\, a former banker and business consultant trained as a mathematician\, is a Gestalt-trained psychotherapist with a Master’s in Social Work from NYU. She specializes in trauma\, holding certifications from the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy and NYU School of Medicine. Antonieta combines trauma modalities and contemplative practices learned in India and Tibetan Buddhism in her private practice. She serves as Board Member and Treasurer for the NYC Trauma Therapists\, and as a consultant\, supervisor\, and former co-director of ICP’s Trauma Studies Program. Antonieta is also the author of Traumatization and Its Aftermath. \n  \n2 NYS CE Credits \nFor any questions\, including those about accessibility or to request accommodations\, please contact Dominika at trauma@icpnyc.org\nAn important note about CEUs: ICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\, mental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, and psychoanalysts through the New York Department of Education. \nIf your license is from a different state\, please contact your state’s licensing board to find out if they will accept CE credits from New York State. SUMMARY:Historical\, Intergenerational\, and Cultural Transmission of Trauma
DESCRIPTION:Historical\, Intergenerational\, and Cultural Transmission of Trauma\nwith Irit Felsen\, PhD \nThursday\, March 6th\, 2025 6:00 pm-8:00 pm at ICP\nApproved for 2 CE Credits! \n\nIrit Felsen\, Ph.D.\, will be presenting on the intergenerational transmission of parental/ancestral trauma in different groups\, highlighting the most important aspects of these processes; many of which are common and some unique differences. The lecture will focus on empirical research and clinical literature on survivors of the Holocaust and their families\, as this is still the largest body of literature in this field. The research has by now covered the lifespan of survivors and their children\, who are now entering old age\, The mental health professions have not readily accepted the validity of the concept of historical trauma\, and the evidence from Holocaust families has opened the gate for research of historical trauma in other groups\, including the Indigenous nations of America and the descendants of Black slaves in America. \nPotential risks for loss of empathy inherent to the confrontation of trauma therapists with stories of brutality and sadism presented by their patients will be also discussed\, as well as strategies to prevent such emotional biases from interfering with good therapy. \n\nAbout Presenters:  \nIrit Felsen\, Ph.D.\, is a clinical psychologist born in Israel\, living in NY\, specializing in the treatment of trauma and traumatic loss. Her clinical work has focused on Holocaust Survivors and their descendants\, and her research on intergenerational transmission has been published in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. She taught for 14 years at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology and is an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University in NYC\, Co-Chair of the Trauma Work Group at the NGO Committee on Mental Health in Consultative Relationship to the United Nations\, and Chair of the Older Adults Work Group within the Covid-19 APA Interdisciplinary Task Force. \nFor any questions\, including those about accessibility or to request accommodations\, please contact Daniella Ortiz at facts@icpnyc.org.\nAn important note about CEUs: ICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\, mental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, and psychoanalysts through the New York Department of Education. Relationships are fraying and discourse is hardly civil. In this we are witnessing reactions to a traumatized brain in survival mode. As the war in the middle east stretches on and this country moves closer to a presidential election\, it is imperative to restore connection and reason in a world full of emotional overwhelm. There are tools which we can use to help ground those that we care for\, professionally and personally. This presentation will outline the brain’s response to traumatic events. You will have an opportunity to learn specific techniques that can be implemented immediately. Our approach will help mental health professionals as well as others\, understand\, manage and calm the emotionally charged reaction all around us. \n__________________________________________________ \n\n__________________________________________________ \nAn important note about CEs:\nICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\, mental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, psychologists and psychoanalysts through the New York Department of Education.
