SUMMARY:Sex Therapy with Survivors of Childhood Sexual Trauma
DESCRIPTION:Summer Sexuality Series:\nSex Therapy with Survivors of Childhood Sexual Trauma\nwith Suzanne Iasenza\, PhD\nWednesdays in June: June 4\, 11\, 18\, and 25 from 1:45pm-3:15pm on Zoom\n6 NYS CE and AASECT Credits! \nWhen sexual difficulties in adulthood are associated with past childhood sexual trauma shame often accompanies such intimate trauma. This workshop will provide a theoretical  understanding as well as clinical techniques in working with sexuality concerns of survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Case material will be discussed. \nIn this four-part series\, participants will: \n\nDiscuss how to create a safe therapeutic environment for survivors\nIdentify important aspects of assessment of childhood sexual abuse\nDescribe the central role of shame for survivors\nDescribe the use of a culturally sensitive relational sexual history to support sexual healing\nList clinical techniques that help survivors safely become more sexual\n\nAbout the Presenter: \n\n\n\nSuzanne Iasenza\, PhD is on the faculties of the Adelphi University Derner Institute’s Postgraduate Program in Psychoanalysis\, and the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP)\, where she is Co-Founder of the Sex Therapy Training Program (STP). She also teaches at the Ackerman Institute for the Family\, the Westchester Center for the Study of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy and the Family Institute of Westchester. She maintains a private practice in psychotherapy and sex therapy in New York. Unlike sexual desire which can wax and wane over time\, sexual attraction is often experienced as fixed and unchangeable. What is a therapist to do? How do we best understand the vicissitudes of sexual attraction over the lifespan of couples including the absence of attraction from the beginning of relationships to its decline over time.  \nUtilizing a narrative approach which integrates psychodynamic\, systems\, and cognitive behavioral elements\, Dr. Iasenza will discuss assessment and treatment techniques that help identify and transform intrapsychic\, interpersonal\, developmental\, and environmental factors that contribute to this emotionally challenging presenting problem. \nAbout the Presenter:  \nSuzanne Iasenza is a practicing psychologist who specializes in and writes on topics such as human sexuality\, sex therapy for individuals and couples\, sexual orientation and gender identity.
