In his private practice\, he is dedicated to helping individuals enhance their self-awareness and self-regulation through evidence-based treatments that integrate psychotherapy\, psychopharmacology\, mindfulness and lifestyle interventions. There are many paths to healing and Dr. Richman’s treatment philosophy emphasizes the transformative power of a collaborative relationship to guide clients toward growth and lasting insight. In addition to his clinical work\, Dr. Richman is an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He completed general psychiatry residency training at Emory School of Medicine\, with supplemental certifications through the Emory Psychoanalytic Institute and Institute for Dialogic Practice. Dr. Richman completed addiction psychiatry fellowship training at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and\, as faculty\, continues to teach on issues related to substance use disorders and other addictive behaviors. DESCRIPTION:The Sexually Well-Informed Clinician: Principles and Practices of Sex Therapy\n \nwith Ian Kerner\, PhD\, LMFT\nFridays; October 3\, 10\, 17\, 24\, 31\, November 7\, 21\, December 5\, 12\, and 19\, 2025 from 9:30AM-11:30AM EST on Zoom\nThis event is approved for approved for 20 AASECT CE + 20 NYS CE Credits \nThis workshop will survey the history of sex therapy and delineate models of human sexual response; it will address therapist self-location when dealing with both heterosexual and LGBTQ sexual issues and cover assessment of sexual concerns and case formulation: how to take a sexual history\, conduct a sex-script analysis and use validated scales and measures to diagnose sex issues. Therapeutic interventions will be covered\, including cognitive-behavioral\, psychodynamic\, psychoeducational\, and pharmacological approaches. We will address common sex problems\, including desire\, arousal and orgasm issues. We will be paying close attention to the development and deepening of the therapeutic alliance and the processing of clinical material that happens both in the room and in between sessions through homework assignments. Case studies will be regularly referenced and discussed. \nAbout the Presenter:  \nIan Kerner\, PhD\, LMFT is a licensed psychotherapist and nationally recognized sexuality counselor who specializes in sex therapy\, couples therapy and working with individuals on a range of relational issues that often lead to distress. Ian is regularly quoted as an expert in various media\, with recent features in The Atlantic\, The New York Times\, The Economist and NPR amongst others. Ian contributes regularly on the topic of sex for CNN Health. He lectures frequently on topics related to sex and relationships\, with recent presentations at New York University\, Yale\, Princeton and the Ackerman Institute. Ian is the New York Times best-selling author of She Comes First (Harper Collins) which has been translated into more than a dozen languages. In addition to being a Clinical Fellow of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT)\, Ian is certified by the American Association of Sexuality Educators\, Counselors and Therapists and is also a member of the American Family Therapy Academy (AFTA). \nRegistration for this course has closed.

With 10+ years of experience in legal defense\, she fights healthcare barriers for vulnerable groups. \n\n\n\n\nNavah Steiner\, is a trauma-informed psychotherapist with 25+ years of experience. He regularly speaks to athletes\, coaches\, and sports medicine personnel about supporting the mental health of athletes\, disordered eating\, and unbalanced exercise in sport. Additionally\, Dr. Nickols consults with eating disorder professionals on best practices for integrating exercise during eating disorder treatment and is sensitive to the unique demands of eating disorder recovery in relation to training and competing in sport. \nCurrently\, Dr. Nickols is the Senior Program Advisor for Athlete EDGE at EDCare in Denver\, CO where specialized intensive eating disorder treatment is provided for athletes. He was previously the Director of the Victory Program\, the nation’s first residential eating disorder treatment facility for athletes\, from 2013-2021 at McCallum Place in St. Louis\, Missouri. \nDr. Nickols is a member of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s (USOPC) Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs) Expert Panel and is listed in the USOPC’s Mental Health Registry. He is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) and Consultant (CEDS-C) through the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (IAEDP) and holds a certificate in the Integrated Treatment of Eating Disorders from the Contemporary Psychotherapy’s Center for the Study of Anorexia & Bulimia (CSAB) in New York\, NY. He currently serves on the Clinical Advisory Council for the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA). \nDr. Nickols is currently on the steering committee for the Eating Disorders and Body Image Special Interest Group as part of the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Division 38 (Society for Health Psychology) and was on the steering committee for Safe Exercise at Every Stage’s (SEES) Athlete Guidelines. \nDr. Nickols is a member of the Big Sky Sport Psychology Group\, Collegiate Clinical/Counseling Sport Psychology Association (CCSPA)\, American Psychological Association’s Division 47 (Exercise & Sport Psychology)\, and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) Eating Disorders Special Interest Group. DESCRIPTION:The Sexually Well-Informed Clinician: Principles and Practices of Sex Therapy\n \nwith Ian Kerner\, PhD\, LMFT\nFridays; September 20\, 27\, October 11\, 18\, 25 \, November 1\, 8\, 22\, December 6\, 13\, 20\, 2024 from 9:30AM-11:30AM EST on Zoom\nThis event is approved for approved for 20 AASECT CE + 20 NYS CE Credits \nThis workshop will survey the history of sex therapy and delineate models of human sexual response; it will address therapist self-location when dealing with both heterosexual and LGBTQ sexual issues and cover assessment of sexual concerns and case formulation: how to take a sexual history\, conduct a sex-script analysis and use validated scales and measures to diagnose sex issues. Therapeutic interventions will be covered\, including cognitive-behavioral\, psychodynamic\, psychoeducational\, and pharmacological approaches. We will address common sex problems\, including desire\, arousal and orgasm issues. We will be paying close attention to the development and deepening of the therapeutic alliance and the processing of clinical material that happens both in the room and in between sessions through homework assignments. Case studies will be regularly referenced and discussed. \nAbout the Presenter:  \nIan Kerner\, PhD\, LMFT is a licensed psychotherapist and nationally recognized sexuality counselor who specializes in sex therapy\, couples therapy and working with individuals on a range of relational issues that often lead to distress. Ian is regularly quoted as an expert in various media\, with recent features in The Atlantic\, The New York Times\, The Economist and NPR amongst others. Ian contributes regularly on the topic of sex for CNN Health. He lectures frequently on topics related to sex and relationships\, with recent presentations at New York University\, Yale\, Princeton and the Ackerman Institute. Ian is the New York Times best-selling author of She Comes First (Harper Collins) which has been translated into more than a dozen languages. This virtual interactive seminar will address these questions and many others that family and friends often have\, but don’t know whom to ask. \nAbout the Presenter\nJacob Pine is a licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice in Manhattan. He grew up in New York City\, and did his undergraduate studies at The Johns Hopkins University and The Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. He earned his Masters degree in social work from Fordham University\, and received his certificate in the integrated treatment of eating disorders from the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia in 2010. He has been Co-director of CSAB for 5 years. DESCRIPTION:Hybrid: Virtual and In-Person\nMelting Away Resistance in Eating Disorder Treatment\n \n\nwith Donna Fish\, LCSW-R\nApproved for 2 NYS CE credits \nPatients who come to us with eating disorders initially want change and they are distressed. Most of the time\, however\, the powerful reasons for the development of their eating disorder\, will reemerge. This workshop will focus on the specific outcome and process resistances that are common to eating disorders\, and will offer therapists specific tools to use with patients at the outset so that the agenda for the work is established. Ways to positively reframe and maintain the advantages of symptoms will be identified. Additionally we will focus on ways to preserve safety and to offer the Gentle Ultimatum in order to effectively set up a treatment plan that takes pressure off of the therapist needing the patient to change. \nAbout the presenter:\nDonna Fish LCSW-R\, is a licensed clinical social worker and currently runs a private practice in Manhattan. Current faculty positions include the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia\, and adjunct at Ramapo College where she teaches the clinical course for 2nd year MSW students. Ms. Fish’s prior guest lecture and adjunct positions include Harvard Medical School Dept. of Continuing Ed.\, and Columbia University. Following the publication of her book “Take the Fight out of Food: How to Prevent and Solve Your Child’s Eating Problems”\, Ms. Fish has been a consultant to NYC’s Administration of Child Services\, Head Start\, Bellevue and Mount Sinai Hospital\, the Minnesota School Board\, and Renfrew Center. \nAn important note about CEs:\nICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\, mental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, psychologists and psychoanalysts through the New York Department of Education. DESCRIPTION:Virtual Workshop:\nThe Truth Shall Set You Free: Ethics and Authenticity in Session\nwith Mark O’Connell\, LCSW-R\, MFA\n \nApproved for 3 NYS CE Credits\nAs therapists\, our most essential instrument to engage our clients is our selves–no matter what theories or techniques guide our work.  But very little is written or taught about how we can prepare and use our instrument in session\, moment-to-moment\, with each client–particularly in terms of our implicit/ non-verbal communication as it transmits through our eyes\, faces\, bodies\, and voices.  The more aware we are of our unique instrument and how we use it\, the more ethical our clinical practice will be with each unique person who seeks our help. \nUtilizing his experience as both an actor and a therapist\, Mark O’Connell will offer you ways to prepare and to use your instrument with awareness\, responsiveness\, authenticity\, intentionality\, versatility\, responsibility\, and self-care.  Participants will discuss ethical dilemmas in clinical practice with individuals\, couples\, and families\, including questions around self-disclosure\, countertransference\, and confidentiality.  And we will study\, from an ethical perspective\, how we can most effectively use ourselves authentically\, even in the most challenging clinical scenarios.  Mark will also guide you through theatrical concepts of “objectives\,” and “roles” within relationships to gain perspectives on effective communication–beyond the words we speak–and to develop and trust your own sense of ethical and clinical best practices. \nAbout the Presenter \nMark O’Connell\, LCSW-R\, MFA\, is a psychotherapist in New York City\, and a trained actor. He’s the author of the books The Performing Art of Therapy: Acting Insights and Techniques for Clinicians\, and Modern Brides & Modern Grooms. We will also explore the different levels of care frequently utilized in eating disorder treatment\, and when and how to decide which level of care is necessary at the different stages of the disorder. This class will introduce participants to concepts of psychodynamic psychotherapy\, CBT\, DBT\, FBT/Maudsley\, IFS\, and other theories\, and their applications to eating disorder treatment. We will discuss the differences between disordered eating and eating disorders. We will examine sub-clinical or “off-label” eating disorders and how to spot burgeoning eating disorders in people across the lifespan. In the DSM-V\, the delineations between the various eating disorders are clear\, but in the real world\, the differences are much more nuanced and\, often\, difficult to ascertain.
