DESCRIPTION:  \n\nEating Disorders in BIPOC Communities:\nDecolonizing & Liberatory Approaches\nwith Norman Kim\, PhD\nFridays\, December 5 & December 11\, 2025\n12:00–2:00 PM EST\nVIRTUAL ON ZOOM\n  \nRegister Now\n$175 – General Admission\n$120 – ICP Affiliated Professionals\n$80 – ICP Therapist \n$55 – ICP Candidate/ Undergraduate Student / Graduate Student\nThis event is approved for\n4 NYS CE Credits \nSystemic racism has pervasive impacts on those suffering from eating disorders as well as those engaged in trying to alleviate that suffering. A stance of clinical neutrality and an individualistic focus are not only inadequate\, they are harmful. By deconstructing dominant cultural norms and biases underlying therapy practices\, we endeavor to disrupt these harmful dynamics. \nWe explore: \n\nThe urgent need within eating disorder treatment to address the systemic nature of barriers to accessing care\nStigma\nLack of representation among providers\nMistrust of providers who do not possess an adequate understanding of cultural factors.\n\nWe will explore structural and institutional\, as well as interpersonal\, manifestations of racism essential for an antiracist foundation to our work caring for those with eating disorders. Through a social justice lens\, participants will explore privilege\, bias\, and the importance of intersectional identities. \nAbout the Presenter:  \nNorman Kim\, PhD is the Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion Officer for the Center for Practice Innovation at the Columbia Department of Psychiatry\, and the founder of the Institute for Antiracism and Equity. He completed his B.A. at Yale and his Ph.D. in Psychology at UCLA. He is a regular national and international speaker\, educator\, and passionate advocate with a particular focus on systemic racism\, eating disorders and anxiety\, evolutionary frameworks for psychopathology\, and anti-Blackness. He advises health tech startups in the UK and US\, professional organizations\, and providers. \n  \n\nICP Community includes current ICP faculty\, supervisors\, and alumni of ICP’s training programs. Please note that for alumni to qualify for this rate\, you must have graduated within 5 years.\nIf the cost of this event presents a financial barrier\, please contact us at CSAB@icpnyc.org. We are happy to offer a reduced rate when needed to ensure accessibility.\n An important note about CEs: ICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\, mental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, creative arts therapists\, psychologists and psychoanalysts through the New York Department of Education.
