She has also held leadership roles as Marketing Chair for the New York Chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals and as a Steering Committee member for the National Eating Disorders Association’s New York City Walk. \nShe is a frequent lecturer on topics related to eating disorders and substance abuse\, speaking to fellow clinicians\, middle and high school students\, and young adults in higher education. https://www.allisonjupiter.com/ \nCarrie D. Gottlieb\, Ph.D. received her B.A. in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. Following the completion of her doctoral studies\, she began her career as a research scientist and staff therapist in the Division of Substance Abuse at the New York State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. She later served as the Director of the Day Treatment Program at the Renfrew Center of New York\, a treatment center specializing in eating disorders. Reva currently specializes in counseling those who struggle with eating disorders and/or disordered eating in a private practice setting. She has also had the privilege of helping clients optimize their nutrition status for conception and is currently in training to become a certified prenatal dietitian. \nReva’s mission is to help clients heal their relationship with food and body. She is on the board of a nonprofit organization\, I Was Supposed to Have a Baby\, helping provide support and resources to those struggling with starting a family. A stance of clinical neutrality and an individualistic focus are not only inadequate\, they are harmful. By deconstructing dominant cultural norms and biases underlying therapy practices\, we endeavor to disrupt these harmful dynamics. \nWe explore: \n\nThe urgent need within eating disorder treatment to address the systemic nature of barriers to accessing care\nStigma\nLack of representation among providers\nMistrust of providers who do not possess an adequate understanding of cultural factors.\n\nWe will explore structural and institutional\, as well as interpersonal\, manifestations of racism essential for an antiracist foundation to our work caring for those with eating disorders. Through a social justice lens\, participants will explore privilege\, bias\, and the importance of intersectional identities. \nAbout the Presenter:  \nNorman Kim\, PhD is the Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion Officer for the Center for Practice Innovation at the Columbia Department of Psychiatry\, and the founder of the Institute for Antiracism and Equity. He completed his B.A. at Yale and his Ph.D. in Psychology at UCLA. He is a regular national and international speaker\, educator\, and passionate advocate with a particular focus on systemic racism\, eating disorders and anxiety\, evolutionary frameworks for psychopathology\, and anti-Blackness. He regularly speaks to athletes\, coaches\, and sports medicine personnel about supporting the mental health of athletes\, disordered eating\, and unbalanced exercise in sport. Additionally\, Dr. Nickols consults with eating disorder professionals on best practices for integrating exercise during eating disorder treatment and is sensitive to the unique demands of eating disorder recovery in relation to training and competing in sport. \nCurrently\, Dr. Nickols is the Senior Program Advisor for Athlete EDGE at EDCare in Denver\, CO where specialized intensive eating disorder treatment is provided for athletes. He was previously the Director of the Victory Program\, the nation’s first residential eating disorder treatment facility for athletes\, from 2013-2021 at McCallum Place in St. Louis\, Missouri. \nDr. Nickols is a member of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s (USOPC) Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs) Expert Panel and is listed in the USOPC’s Mental Health Registry. He is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) and Consultant (CEDS-C) through the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (IAEDP) and holds a certificate in the Integrated Treatment of Eating Disorders from the Contemporary Psychotherapy’s Center for the Study of Anorexia & Bulimia (CSAB) in New York\, NY. He currently serves on the Clinical Advisory Council for the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA). \nDr. Nickols is currently on the steering committee for the Eating Disorders and Body Image Special Interest Group as part of the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Division 38 (Society for Health Psychology) and was on the steering committee for Safe Exercise at Every Stage’s (SEES) Athlete Guidelines. \nDr. Nickols is a member of the Big Sky Sport Psychology Group\, Collegiate Clinical/Counseling Sport Psychology Association (CCSPA)\, American Psychological Association’s Division 47 (Exercise & Sport Psychology)\, and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) Eating Disorders Special Interest Group. In addition to conducting individual\, couples and family therapy\, Dr. Jacobs leads CBT and DBT skills training groups. Dr. Jacobs uses her breadth and depth of knowledge to individually tailor treatment to the children\, adolescents and adults with whom she works. Dr. Jacobs received her undergraduate degree from Binghamton University\, her master’s degree (MHC) from Brooklyn College\, and her doctoral degree (Ph.D.) from Fairleigh Dickinson University. While practicing as a clinical psychologist at the Mount Sinai Health System\, Dr. Jacobs also previously held roles as the Program Director of the Mount Sinai Eating and Weight Disorder Program’s Adolescent Intensive Care program\, as well as Director of Outreach and Prevention. Participants will be invited to engage deeply with these practices\, observe their impact on their own body\, and learn how to better support their clients’ recovery using trauma-informed\, body-centered techniques. \nAbout the Presenter:  \nAnastasia Nevin MS\, RDN\, CEDRD-C\, SEP (she/her) is a Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian\, Clinical Supervisor\, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and Yoga Instructor who specializes in the relationship between body\, food\, and trauma. \nAnastasia’s approach is rooted in a non-diet\, weight inclusive\, holistic & compassionate understanding of recovery which incorporates the body into healing. She helps clients (re)learn how to nourish themselves physically and spiritually. \nAnastasia offers nutrition therapy and somatic sessions that support healing from disordered eating and trauma. She uses her warmth as well as her own recovery from an eating disorder to lovingly challenge and empower clients to heal their own relationship to food\, while finding safety and regulation in their body and nervous system. \nAnastasia graduated from Stanford University with Honors in Psychology.  She went on to complete her Masters in Nutrition Education at Columbia University’s Teachers College. Anastasia has worked at both partial hospitalization and day treatment levels of care within eating disorder treatment program settings in NYC\, and was Monte Nido’s Manhattan’s first Lead Dietitian and Yoga Therapist. She has had a thriving private practice for over a decade. \nAnastasia received her yoga training at her beloved home studio Laughing Lotus where she taught dynamic\, musical vinyasa flow classes for many years. She has studied Ayurveda (India’s ancient holistic medicine system)\, Restorative Yoga\, Yoga Nidra\, Chakras and Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy and loves bringing these mind-body-energy practices into an integrative\, trauma-informed\, therapeutic treatment model. \nIn 2022\, Anastasia completed the three year certification program to become an SEP (Somatic Experiencing Practitioner). Somatic Experiencing Trauma Therapy is a body-based\, naturalistic approach to healing trauma founded by Dr. Peter Levine. Anastasia is particularly interested in the areas of chronic pain/chronic illness\, sexual trauma\, and trans/inter-generational trauma. DESCRIPTION:Hybrid: Virtual and In-Person\nMelting Away Resistance in Eating Disorder Treatment\n \n\nwith Donna Fish\, LCSW-R\nApproved for 2 NYS CE credits \nPatients who come to us with eating disorders initially want change and they are distressed. Most of the time\, however\, the powerful reasons for the development of their eating disorder\, will reemerge. This workshop will focus on the specific outcome and process resistances that are common to eating disorders\, and will offer therapists specific tools to use with patients at the outset so that the agenda for the work is established. Ways to positively reframe and maintain the advantages of symptoms will be identified. Additionally we will focus on ways to preserve safety and to offer the Gentle Ultimatum in order to effectively set up a treatment plan that takes pressure off of the therapist needing the patient to change. \nAbout the presenter:\nDonna Fish LCSW-R\, is a licensed clinical social worker and currently runs a private practice in Manhattan. Current faculty positions include the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia\, and adjunct at Ramapo College where she teaches the clinical course for 2nd year MSW students. Ms. Fish’s prior guest lecture and adjunct positions include Harvard Medical School Dept. of Continuing Ed.\, and Columbia University. Following the publication of her book “Take the Fight out of Food: How to Prevent and Solve Your Child’s Eating Problems”\, Ms. Fish has been a consultant to NYC’s Administration of Child Services\, Head Start\, Bellevue and Mount Sinai Hospital\, the Minnesota School Board\, and Renfrew Center. \nAn important note about CEs:\nICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\, mental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, psychologists and psychoanalysts through the New York Department of Education. DESCRIPTION:Virtual Workshop Series:\nIntro to the Treatment of Eating Disorders\nwith CSAB co-director Jake Pine\, LCSW\n \nTuesdays – October 3\, 10\, & 17\, 2023\, 6:30-8:00pm\nApproved for 4.5 NYS CE credits \nHow\, where\, and when to get treatment for an eating disorder is one of the more difficult and important decisions an individual\, family or treatment provider will have to make. This three-session seminar on the treatment of eating disorders will serve as a primer to the different treatment models often used to treat eating disorders. We will also explore the different levels of care frequently utilized in eating disorder treatment\, and when and how to decide which level of care is necessary at the different stages of the disorder. This class will introduce participants to concepts of psychodynamic psychotherapy\, CBT\, DBT\, FBT/Maudsley\, IFS\, and other theories\, and their applications to eating disorder treatment. We will become familiar with the nuanced differences between inpatient hospitalization\, residential treatment\, PHP\, IOP\, and outpatient treatment. \nAn important note about CEs:\nICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\, mental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, psychologists and psychoanalysts through the New York Department of Education.
