DESCRIPTION:Upcoming Virtual Workshop:\nSummer Sexuality Series: Attachment without Attraction: Understanding Lost Sexual Attraction in Couples\n \nwith Suzanne Iasenza\, PhD\nWednesdays: June 5\, 12\, 19\, and 26\, 2024; 1:45pm-3:15pm\nThis event is approved for Approved for 6 AASECT CE + 6 NYS CE Credits \nOne of the most perplexing clinical moments for patients and therapists is a declaration of an absence of sexual attraction by one or both partners. Unlike sexual desire which can wax and wane over time\, sexual attraction is often experienced as fixed and unchangeable. What is a therapist to do? How do we best understand the vicissitudes of sexual attraction over the lifespan of couples including the absence of attraction from the beginning of relationships to its decline over time.  \nUtilizing a narrative approach which integrates psychodynamic\, systems\, and cognitive behavioral elements\, Dr. Iasenza will discuss assessment and treatment techniques that help identify and transform intrapsychic\, interpersonal\, developmental\, and environmental factors that contribute to this emotionally challenging presenting problem. \nAbout the Presenter:  \nSuzanne Iasenza is a practicing psychologist who specializes in and writes on topics such as human sexuality\, sex therapy for individuals and couples\, sexual orientation and gender identity. She teaches at the Ackerman Institute for the Family\, Adelphi University’s Derner Institute Postgraduate Program in Psychoanalysis\, the Westchester Center for the Study of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy\, the Family Institute of Westchester\, and the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy in NYC\, where she co-founded the Sex Therapy Training Program (STP). \nShe offers study/consultation groups and individual consultation for mental health professionals. She has a private practice in psychotherapy and sex therapy in New York. \nAn important note about CEs: ICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\, mental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, creative arts therapists\, psychologists and psychoanalysts through the New York Department of Education. Participants will gain valuable insights into different types of sexual abuse\, prevalent diagnoses\, and effective therapeutic approaches and techniques for supporting survivors of CSA in a clinical setting. By attending this workshop\, professionals will enhance their understanding and skills in providing compassionate and effective care for survivors of CSA. \nAbout the Presenter: \nDr. Edwards is a sexual trauma therapist.She specializes in the treatment of suicidal survivors of childhood sexual abuse.\n \nDr. Edwards is the Director of the NYU Silver School of Social Work Advanced Clinical Practice Post-Masters Program.  She is also an Adjunct Lecturer at the NYU Silver School of Social Work\, and faculty at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies Child and Adolescent Trauma Program\, and the Integrative Trauma Program. She is a Big Apple Children Services Supervisor. \nAn important note about CEs: ICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\, mental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, creative arts therapists\, psychologists and psychoanalysts through the New York Department of Education.
