Please note\, however\, that CE certificates can only be issued to participants who attend the event live.\n \nRegistration\nIn this presentation\, we review emerging data and the rationale behind the HB-01 Neuroenergetic protocol for PTSD under investigation at The Neuro Well\, which targets brain-energy signaling via astrocyte/neuro-metabolic dysregulation. We examine evidence linking PTSD to mitochondrial dysfunction and discuss how addressing adaptive hypometabolism — via widely available repurposed medications — may represent a promising avenue for patients with PTSD\, including treatment-resistant cases. Dr. Seifan will share results from observational studies reporting improvement in persistent cognitive symptoms (brain-fog) and emotional blunting. He completed his neurology residency at the University of Miami and his fellowship in the Division of Aging & Dementia of Columbia University. He currently serves as the Chief Science Officer at HB Biotech and runs his practice\, Cognitive Neurology Consultants. Dr. Seifan treats patients of all ages\, with any neurological or psychiatric symptom\, regardless of diagnosis or insurance. He has contributed significant research publications in his field and has been involved in several clinical trials. His notable prior recognitions include the Leon Levy Neuroscience Fellowship Award and the Community Engagement Award from Weill Cornell Medicine. That is\, that transference-countertransference processes are present in most clinical activity\, even when what’s going on seems\nordinary. A case presentation will highlight how analysts and patients engage in these ongoing enactive processes in very brief time frames of seconds to minutes. This seminar will apply and elaborate the themes of the Friday evening lecture on microenactments and the internal world \n\n\nPresenters\n\nStephen Seligman\, DMH is Clinical Professor\, Department of Psychiatry at the University of California\, San Francisco and at the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis; Training and Supervising Analyst\, San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California. He is the author of Relationships in Development: Infancy\, Intersubjectivity\, Attachment (Routledge\, 2018); co-editor of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health: Core Concepts and Clinical Practice; and Editor Emeritus of Psychoanalytic Dialogues. Dr. Seligman is the author of over 100 articles\, chapters and reviews\, many of which take up the intersection of infancy\, the infantile and psychoanalytic theory and practice. He has been involved in the development of the original “Fraiberg model” of infant-parent psychotherapy for several decades.\n\n\n\n\nLaura Mackall\, LCSW\, is a psychotherapist in private practice in New York City and a psychoanalytic candidate at the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy. She holds an MSW from New York University and a BFA from\nPratt Institute. These interactions can be upsetting and deadening\, enlivening and transformative. But even those that seem “just routine” can disclose much meaning: More often than we realize\, ordinary "technical" choices reflect our participation in enactments that can easily go unnoticed. Relational and object relations theories\, infant observation research\, traditional Freudian concepts will be taken up\, and video of infant-parent interaction will be offered. \n\n\nPresenters\n\nStephen Seligman\, DMH is Clinical Professor\, Department of Psychiatry at the University of California\, San Francisco and at the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis; Training and Supervising Analyst\, San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California. He is the author\, with Pearl-Ellen Gordon\, of The Mind Object: Precocity and Pathology of Self-Sufficiency (1995). More recently Ed organized and edited Adam Phillips’ The Cure for Psychoanalysis\, which includes essays by members of the ICP community. Therapists will be prepared to show up as more compassionate\, survivor-oriented\, actionable resources for sexual assault survivors and their partners and loved ones. While sex after sexual assault is often swept under the rug or ignored\, we all benefit from talking about it more openly. What did sexual assault survivors have to say about their own healing journeys? How did their therapists and communities show up to support their post-assault sex life?\n\n\nPresenter\n\nKatie Simon is a sexuality journalist and author of Tell Me What You Like: An Honest Discussion of Sex and Intimacy After Sexual Assault. Their writing has previously appeared in the New York Times\, New York Magazine\, Vogue\, The Washington Post\, Playboy\, and Women's Health. Katie studied creative writing\, marketing\, and narrative medicine at New York University\, the University of East Anglia\, and Columbia University. \nThey are collaborating on research about coping skills and sources of support for survivors reclaiming their sexuality after sexual assault\, and working on a new project about the roles our exes play in the rest of our lives.  \n\n\n\n  \n  \n  \nKatie Simon (they/them) has written for The New York Times\, The Washington Post\, Vogue\, BuzzFeed\, Tin House\, Health\, BUST\, Women's Health\, and elsewhere\, including the anthology Anatomy of Silence. \nKatie earned a BA in Contemporary Storytelling at New York University and an MA in Biography and Creative Nonfiction Writing at the University of East Anglia. Dr. Jacobs has extensive training and experience using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies (CBT)\, Family Based Treatment (FBT)\, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)\, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to treat eating disorders\, anxiety disorders\, OCD and related disorders\, substance abuse\, personality disorders\, as well as varying behavioral and emotional challenges. In addition to conducting individual\, couples\, and family therapy\, Dr. Jacobs leads CBT and DBT skills training groups. She uses her breadth and depth of knowledge to individually tailor treatment to the children\, adolescents\, and adults with whom she works. Dr. Jacobs received her undergraduate degree from Binghamton University\, her master’s degree (MHC) from Brooklyn College\, and her doctoral degree (Ph.D.) from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Hall\, Ph.D.\, is a licensed psychologist with over four decades of experience in sex therapy and research. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from McGill University in Montreal\, Canada\, and has since become a leading voice in the field of sex therapy. \nDr. Hall has lectured and written extensively on topics related to sexual health\, psychotherapy\, and the cultural influences on sexual well-being. Her latest book\, Talking About Sex in Psychotherapy\, is set for release by the American Psychological Association Press in November 2025. She also maintains an active private practice specializing in the treatment of sexual concerns and sits on the Special Classification Review Board\, a panel of experts appointed by the Governor of New Jersey responsible for overseeing treatment progress and determining parole readiness for incarcerated sex offenders. \nShe is passionate about mentorship\, and she provides training in sex therapy for both emerging and experienced clinicians. Through a social justice lens\, participants will explore privilege\, bias\, and the importance of intersectional identities. \nAbout the Presenter:  \nNorman Kim\, PhD is the Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion Officer for the Center for Practice Innovation at the Columbia Department of Psychiatry\, and the founder of the Institute for Antiracism and Equity. He completed his B.A. at Yale and his Ph.D. in Psychology at UCLA. He is a regular national and international speaker\, educator\, and passionate advocate with a particular focus on systemic racism\, eating disorders and anxiety\, evolutionary frameworks for psychopathology\, and anti-Blackness. A former banker and business consultant born in Mexico\, she is a Gestalt-trained psychotherapist\, who graduated as a social worker from NYU. She obtained a specialization in Trauma Studies from the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP)\, in Human Sexuality from NYU The School of Medicine\, and is a Board Certified Neurofeedback Clinician. \nIn her private practice\, Antonieta integrates various modalities she’s certified on focused on trauma treatment alongside contemplative techniques she learned during her time in India and from Tibetan Buddhist traditions. You're more than welcome to join us even if you missed part one!\nIn the second part of her presentation about intergenerational transmission of parental/ancestral trauma\, Irit Felsen\, PhD will be focusing on clinical implications for working with individuals from trauma-exposed groups. Recent approaches increasingly recognize the importance of historical trauma and of intergenerational processes as these shape the content and expression of particular psychological themes\, vulnerabilities and resiliencies in the descendants of trauma\, and their responses to current traumatic experiences and reminders of ancestral trauma.  Current wars and catastrophes\, national and international political upheaval\, and the erosion of democratic norms have intensely impacted patients and therapists in recent years and require the capacity to address in therapy the fear and anxiety in response to these national and international affairs\, the impact of these experiences on the therapeutic dyad\, and how both patient and therapist are influenced by legacies of historical trauma.  A trauma-focused framework will be presented\, addressing specific clinical factors and interventions for working with individuals whose presenting problems might also be rooted in intergenerationally transmitted traumatic experiences.  Identifying\, comprehending\, and working with the reverberations of intergenerational transmission of trauma might be critical for adequate treatment\, for symptom reduction and for enhancing patients’ resilience and well-being in trying times. \n\n\nIrit Felsen\, PhD is a clinical psychologist specializing in the effects of trauma and traumatic loss and intergenerational transmission of both trauma and resiliencies in families. \nDr. Felsen is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia University and had been an assistant professor at Yeshiva University Graduate School of Psychology for 14 years. She obtained her MA in Clinical Psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem\, her PhD the University of Hamburg\, Germany\, and her postdoctoral training at Yale University. Dr. Felsen worked in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings\, and since 9/11\, has served on a national emergency response team. Dr. Felsen is a Fellow of Division 56 (Trauma Division) in the APA\, chair of the Trauma Working Group of the NGO on Mental Health in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations\, a member of the National Center for Crisis Management and the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress\, and she was chair of the Work Group on Older Adults in the Interdivision APA Covid-19 Task Force. \nDr. Felsen’s research papers have been published in peer reviewed publications including American Journal of Orthopsychiatry; Psychoanalytic Psychology; Psychoanalysis\, Self and Context; American Journal of Psychiatry; Psychotherapy Research; Psychological Trauma: Theory\, Research\, Practice\, Policy; American Psychology; and others. She has contributed multiple book chapters\, among which a chapter in Charles Figley’s “Pandemic Providers” (2023)\, and a most recent one in “Routledge International Handbook of Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Descendants of Holocaust Survivors” (2024). She maintains a private practice in Englewood\, NJ. Eng\, PhD & Shinhee Han\, PhD\n\nFriday\, October 17\, 2025\, from 7 to 9 pm\nin-person at ICP\n(The lecture won't be streamed or recorded)\nRefreshments and conversation at 9 pm following the lecture. \n2 NYS CE Credits\nFocusing on the social and psychic lives of Asian Americans\, Eng and Han trace their three-decade collaboration across classroom and clinic\, from their groundbreaking work on racial melancholia and racial dissociation to a discussion of their current thinking on racial rage\, racial guilt\, and the uses of anger for Asian Americans. Using clinical examples\, they investigate the ways in which losses connected to immigration\, assimilation\, and racialization processes are mediated\, mitigated\, and exacerbated through rage and guilt for Asian Americans. In particular\, they explore the exemplary role of the Asian American therapist as an emotional custodian for black rage and white guilt\, along with issues of racial hate in the countertransference. \n  \nDavid L. Eng\, PhD is Richard L. Fisher Professor of English at the University of Pennsylvania\, where he is also Professor in the Programs of Asian American Studies\, Comparative Literature & Literary Theory\, and Gender\, Sexuality & Women’s Studies. A specialist in law\, psychoanalysis\, queer theory\, comparative race studies\, and Asian diaspora\, Eng is the recipient of research fellowships from the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton\, the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies\, and the Mellon Foundation\, among others. He is an honorary member of IPTAR and a recipient of the Kessler Prize\, given to a scholar or activist with a major contribution to LGBTQ Studies. Eng is the author of four monographs including\, most recently\, Reparations and the Human (Duke\, 2025).  He is also co-editor of numerous collections including Loss: The Politics of Mourning (California\, 2003) and Q & A: Queer in Asian America (Temple\, 1998). \n  \nShinhee Han\, PhD\, is a senior psychotherapist at the New School University Counseling Service and in private practice in New York City. In this interactive presentation\, clinician and author Dee Dee Goldpaugh will outline the emerging research on psychedelics and sexuality\, but go far beyond that to ask questions about how prohibiting pleasure has molded our current drug laws\, why pleasure is omitted from the narrative about psychedelic healing\, and how psychedelics can help us to embrace our erotic power for optimal sexual experiences and sexual self-actualization.  \nBased on their new book\, Embrace Pleasure: How Psychedelics Can Heal Our Sexuality\, Dee Dee will provide practical education on psychedelic preparation and integration in sex therapy practice\, explore how different psychedelic medicines impact sexual satisfaction and pleasure\, and offer a new framework for working with sexual trauma. Grounded in research\, this presentation will also strive to critique the neo-liberal and capitalist structures that exist in our society and in psychedelic science that prevent us from embracing pleasure\, creating community\, and engaging in meaningful erotic connection while centering on the uplifting message that pleasure (and psychedelics medicines) have the power to heal us.  \nAbout the Presenter: \nDee Dee Goldpaugh\, LCSW is a psychotherapist\, consultant\, educator\, and author. They are the Clinical Director of Chrysalis Integrative Psychotherapy\, the Women\, Gender Diversity\, and Sexual Minorities Advisor for The Chacruna Institute for Psychedelic Plant Medicines\, and they are part of the Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy team at the Woodstock Therapy Center. Dee Dee has authored the first paper to appear in an academic journal describing Psychedelic Integration Psychotherapy techniques that incorporate spirituality for sexual trauma survivors. They also served as a Clinical Supervisor for the EMBARK approach to Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy in addition to having facilitated numerous Ketamine-Assisted Transformational retreats. Within the LGBTQAI community substance use is amplified by higher rates of use\, which require specifically attuned harm reduction approaches. It is imperative for social workers to have a clear framework to support themselves and those they work with. This workshop will provide participants with a familiarity and understanding of the core principles of the Harm Reduction Model. Through experiential learning that will incorporate role plays\, dialogue\, and an overview of harm reduction principles\, participants will begin/continue to learn how to apply a harm reduction lens to their clinical work within the LGBTQIA community. This workshop will also explore and discuss complementary interventions that support harm reduction work in practice. There will be an opportunity for participants to share case examples\, engage in teaching/learning and receive peer support/feedback. Participants should come prepared for an interactive workshop that will invite you to self-reflect\, engage in partner shares\, and larger group practices. \nAbout the Presenter: \n\n\n\nGiorgio Handman is a social worker\, artist\, and a lover of harm reduction. He graduated from The Silberman School of Social Work in 2012. Giorgio completed a mindfulness facilitator training at the Engaged Mindfulness Institute and has incorporated mindfulness into his social work practice and harm reduction work with young people experiencing homelessness\, veterans\, people living with HIV/AIDS\, and individuals navigating substance use and currently practices harm reduction at the REACH clinic at Mount Sinai. Therapeutic interventions will be covered\, including cognitive-behavioral\, psychodynamic\, psychoeducational\, and pharmacological approaches. We will be paying close attention to the development and deepening of the therapeutic alliance and the processing of clinical material that happens both in the room and in between sessions through homework assignments. Case studies will be regularly referenced and discussed. \nAbout the Presenter:  \nIan Kerner\, PhD\, LMFT is a licensed psychotherapist and nationally recognized sexuality counselor who specializes in sex therapy\, couples therapy and working with individuals on a range of relational issues that often lead to distress. Ian is regularly quoted as an expert in various media\, with recent features in The Atlantic\, The New York Times\, The Economist and NPR amongst others. Ian contributes regularly on the topic of sex for CNN Health. He lectures frequently on topics related to sex and relationships\, with recent presentations at New York University\, Yale\, Princeton and the Ackerman Institute. Ian is the New York Times best-selling author of She Comes First (Harper Collins) which has been translated into more than a dozen languages. DESCRIPTION:Kink and Healing\nwith Shveta Mittal\, PhD\nThursday\, June 26\, 2025 from 7:00PM-9:00PM on Zoom\n2 NYS CE and AASECT Credits! \n\nEmerging research demonstrates that BDSM/kink can assist individuals in healing from past trauma. Some kink practitioners appear to intentionally seek out these purposes from kink\, while others may experience healing as a by-product. This presentation aims to increase clinicians’ cultural competence with the diverse spectrum of kink sexualities\, relational dynamics\, and unique experiences of stigma. A brief introduction to the BDSM/Kink Community will be presented\, followed by a review of research and clinical accounts that support personal growth and healing from BDSM/Kink engagements. The risks and benefits of trauma-informed kink play for psychosomatic healing will also be reviewed and discussed. \nOver the course of this workshop\, attendees will learn common myths about BDSM Practitioners\, learn least 3 ways BDSM/Kink can facilitate personal growth and healing from trauma\, and be taught to identify potential risks to using BDSM/kink activities for psychological and somatic healing. \n\nAbout the Presenter: \n\n\n\nDr. Shveta Mittal is a licensed therapist\, certified psychedelic practitioner\, and leather lifestylist with more than a decade of experience helping clients develop a better understanding of themselves while facilitating improved coping\, insight and personal growth. She has worked specifically with first responders and individuals holding multiple minority identities\, providing culturally competent care from a sex-positive\, person-centered\, trauma-informed lens. Dr. Mittal is a co-chair of the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Division 44 BDSM Task Force and a member/author of the APA’s Joint Committee on Sex Positive Guidelines. \n\n\n\n\nAn important note about CEs: ICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\, mental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, and psychoanalysts through the New York Department of Education.
