SUMMARY:Summer Sexuality Series: Identifying & Working with Body Narratives in Sex Therapy with Suzanne Iasenza\, PhD
DESCRIPTION:Summer Sexuality Series:\nBody Talk: Identifying and Working with Body Narratives in Sex Therapy\nwith Suzanne Iasenza\, PhD\nWednesdays\, June 1\, 8\, 15\, 22\, 2022; 1:45-3:15pm EST on Zoom\n6 Continuing Education Credits Available\n\nThe Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Mental Health Practitioners as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed psychoanalysts\, licensed social workers\, licensed mental health counselors\, licensed marriage and family therapists\, and licensed psychologists.\n\nThese programs meet the requirements of the American Association of Sexuality Educators\, Counselors and Therapists(AASECT) and are approved for CE credits. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT Certification and renewal of certification.\n\nPsychotherapists are learning to appreciate the notion that “the body keeps the score” as esteemed trauma specialist Bessel van der Kolk contends. How do we integrate such awareness into psychotherapy as we work with sexuality concerns? This year’s Summer Sexuality Series will discuss how to identify and utilize body narratives with individuals and couples. Case material will include examples of racializing\, objectifying\, and vilifying cultural body narratives that impact sexual development.\n\nAbout the Presenter:\n\nSuzanne Iasenza is a practicing psychologist who specializes in and writes on topics such as human sexuality\, sex therapy for individuals and couples\, sexual orientation and gender identity. She is on the faculties of the Ackerman Institute for the Family\, Adelphi University’s Derner Institute Postgraduate Program in Psychoanalysis\, and the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy in NYC\, where she also serves as Co-Director of the Sex Therapy Training Program (STC). She offers study/consultation groups and individual consultation for mental health professionals. She has a private practice in psychotherapy and sex therapy in New York City.\n\nQuestions about this module? Email Tobin Berliner\, MPH\, Program Manager at pcgs@icpnyc.org

SUMMARY:Barriers to Nourishment: How the wellness industrial complex\, Healthism\, fat phobia and Orthorexia ‘shape’ our treatment approaches to eating disorders with Asher Pandjiris\, LCSW
DESCRIPTION:2 NYC CE Credits.  \nThis workshop is being offered by PCGS and by the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia \nIn this workshop\, we will explore (via case presentations\, optional assigned readings and interactive lecture) the challenges posed when working with disordered eating in a clinical context. \nAsher will guide participants through a contemporary framework for treating disordered eating informed by attachment theory\, challenges to healthism and wellness industrial complex narratives and\, perhaps most critically\, the clinician’s countertransference. Special attention will be given to approaching work with LGBTQIA clients who struggle with concurrent gender dysphoria and disordered eating. \nThere will be plenty of time for questions. At the end of the workshop you will receive resources for deeper self-directed contemplation and study. \nAbout the Presenter: Asher Pandjiris\, LCSW (NY)\, LICSW (MA) \nPsychotherapist\, Podcaster\, Group Facilitator\, Clinical Supervisor and Co-Director of Kintsugi Therapist Collective \nI am a queer\, white\, non-binary parent. I am an art-maker\, an activist\, a psychotherapist\, a podcaster\, a group facilitator and supervisor to newer clinicians. I am someone living with auto-immune based chronic health issues. I am a scholar of critical\, psychoanalytic and mindfulness based theories. I currently reside on unceded Nipmuc and Pocumtuc land in what is colonially called Amherst\, MA. \nI believe that everyone deserves to be supported in dealing with their own legacies of trauma and psychic suffering so that we can more easefully navigate this neoliberal/capitalist/deeply racist\, transphobic and ableist heteropatriarchy that is traumatic for everyone\, especially folks who are highly sensitive and/or navigate multisystemic oppression. The programs and workshops I offer are aimed at supporting folks in these challenges. I love hosting the Living in this Queer Body podcast and facilitating programs on topics that I feel deeply passionate about. \nI received a Masters of Arts in Visual and Critical Studies in 2007 and a Masters of Social Work from Smith College in 2013. In 2017\, I completed a certificate program at The Stephen Mitchell Center for Relational Studies. Additionally\, I served as the Program Director at Balance Eating Disorder treatment center and have years of experience working with issues related to trauma and its impact on the body. I have published on the topics of intergenerational trauma transmission\, the treatment of eating disorders\, sexual assault in the music industry\, the wellness industrial complex and gender dysphoria. \n  \nClick Here for Tickets \n
