Family members of a person with an eating disorder are often asked (and frequently want) to get treatment for themselves\, but sometimes don’t know how to find it\, what sort of treatment to get\, and in some cases\, why it is important at all. This virtual interactive seminar will address these questions and many others that family and friends often have\, but don’t know whom to ask. \nAbout the Presenter\nJacob Pine is a licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice in Manhattan. He grew up in New York City\, and did his undergraduate studies at The Johns Hopkins University and The Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. He earned his Masters degree in social work from Fordham University\, and received his certificate in the integrated treatment of eating disorders from the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia in 2010. He has been Co-director of CSAB for 5 years. He has presented\, supervised\, and taught in numerous capacities\, and has had multiple articles published about his experience running an eating disorder group for men. While Covid forced us to abandon these assumptions\, we anticipated\, even yearned for the day when we could return to in-person work. \nToday we’re in a gray zone. To mask or not to mask? To remain remote or risk exposure? While these decisions in part are informed by clinical considerations\, our personal necessities are likely also implicated. Do we rationalize when we declare remote therapy equivalent (or nearly equivalent) to in-person work? Do we minimize the health risk to ourselves and our patients when we return to an in-person model? In this talk we invite you to interrogate the factors—conscious or not—that inform our use (or rejection) of remote work. We also aim to explore the short- and long-term implications of working through a screen for the psychoanalytic field as a whole. \nLeora Trub\, a clinical psychologist\, has written extensively on these issues. She runs the Digital Media and Psychology lab at Pace University where she investigates how technologies affect our conceptions of ourselves and our relationships with others. \nJoyce Slochower will act as facilitator and discussant. \nPresenter – Leora Trub\, PhD \nLeora Trub\, Ph.D.\, is Associate Professor at Pace University’s doctoral program in School/Clinical-Child Psychology\, and has a private practice in New York City\, where she treats adolescents\, adults and couples. Therapists and patients often buy into myths believing sex in later life is destined to be limited and disappointing. After years of substandard or non-existent sex in long-term relationships some seniors enter couple therapy feeling hopeless and skeptical that erotic life is possible especially as they experience the physical impact of aging. \nThis presentation will discuss how to identify and transform limiting cultural and personal narratives\, thus creating potential erotic space within which couples discover erotic lightness and play. Case material will illustrate how to integrate new narrative frames and technique into therapy with senior couples. \nAbout the Presenter:\nSUZANNE IASENZA\, PhD is on the faculties of the Adelphi University Derner Institute’s Postgraduate Program in Psychoanalysis\, and the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP)\, where she also serves as Co-Director of the Sex Therapy Training Program (STP). She also teaches at the Ackerman Institute for the Family\, the Westchester Center for the Study of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy and the Family Institute of Westchester. She maintains a private practice in psychotherapy and sex therapy in New York.
