This presentation will explore how to shift couples from a state of sexual disconnection to an experience of erotic discovery. We will discuss how to understand common underlying dynamics as well as identify and transform narratives maintaining sexual avoidance. In his private practice\, he is dedicated to helping individuals enhance their self-awareness and self-regulation through evidence-based treatments that integrate psychotherapy\, psychopharmacology\, mindfulness and lifestyle interventions. There are many paths to healing and Dr. Richman’s treatment philosophy emphasizes the transformative power of a collaborative relationship to guide clients toward growth and lasting insight. In addition to his clinical work\, Dr. Richman is an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. We are happy to offer a reduced rate when needed. \n*ICP Community includes: Current faculty\, supervisors\, and alumni (graduated within the last 5 years \n\n\nPresenter\n\n \nJacob Pine\n \nJacob Pine is a licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice in Manhattan.  He grew up in New York City\, and did his undergraduate studies at The Johns Hopkins University and The Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore.  He earned his Masters degree in social work from Fordham University\, and received his certificate in the integrated treatment of eating disorders from the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia\, a division of the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy\, a psychoanalytic training institute in Manhattan. \nAfter college\, Jacob had a long and successful career as a chef in and around NYC.  He became interested in understanding more deeply the relationships people have with food and diet.  He returned to school and began a new career.  His love and study of music\, and his appreciation and knowledge of food permeate the work he does. He believes in addressing the issues at hand and treating people individually and with respect and understanding.  He is well-versed in a wide variety of theories and techniques\, and uses them as indicated by both scientific research and professional experience. \n  \n\n\n\nContinuing Education Credits\n\nAn important note about CEs: ICP is an approved provider of continuing education credits for social workers\, mental health counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, creative arts therapists\, psychologists and psychoanalysts through the New York Department of Education. A co-founder and former President of the New York State Coalition of Social Workers\, Marissa's diverse clinical experience spans inpatient and outpatient settings\, supervision\, and program development. She is a prolific presenter and writer on topics like eating disorders and social work advocacy. In this presentation\, Dr. Schoen explores how erotic material can carry both defensive and progressive meanings\, with the aim of expanding clinicians’ capacities to invite\, tolerate\, and think about erotic dynamics in the analytic relationship. Drawing on contemporary relational and developmental perspectives\, Dr. Schoen will present a detailed clinical account illustrating sexuality’s dense entanglement with basic issues of vitality and coming alive. Developmental trauma\, sexual charge\, disintegrative anxieties\, core fantasies of transformation\, and concretized longings for physical touch permeate eroticism in the space of breakdown.Highlighting how both patient and analyst regulate anxiety by avoiding these unstable intersections\, Dr. Schoen proposes that it is through delving into these overlaps that the central issues of being and becoming can emerge. \n \n  \nSarah Schoen\, Ph.D.\, is Faculty\, Supervising\, and Training Analyst at the William Alanson White Institute\, Adjunct Clinical Professor of Psychology at the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis\, and Invited Faculty at the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. She is Executive Editor at Psychoanalytic Dialogues\, on the editorial board of Contemporary Psychoanalysis\, and co-editor of Patriarchy and its Discontents: Psychoanalytic Perspectives (2023).
