SUMMARY:How to Treat an Eating Disorder: An Introduction to Treatment Modalities
DESCRIPTION:with Marissa Sappho\, LCSW\, BCD\, CEDS-S\n \nThursdays\, October 8\, 15\, 22\, & 29\, 2026 | 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM \nVirtual on Zoom \nEARN 6 NYS CE CREDITS \nRegistration\n\n\nOnce you recognize that a patient may have an eating disorder\, do you know what should happen next? Eating-disorder treatment is never one-size-fits-all. Healthcare and community professionals must understand available treatment approaches\, recognize when a higher level of care is needed\, and help patients and families navigate appropriate next steps. \nLed by Marissa Sappho\, LCSW\, BCD\, CEDS-S\, founder of Aurora Behavioral Health\, this four-session seminar provides a practical framework for understanding the treatment landscape\, collaborating across disciplines\, and facilitating appropriate referrals. \nKey Learning Objectives: \nCompare Treatment Modalities: Examine the foundational principles and clinical applications of psychodynamic psychotherapy\, CBT\, DBT\, Family-Based Treatment (FBT/Maudsley)\, IFS\, and other core approaches. \nDifferentiate Levels of Care: Distinguish among inpatient hospitalization\, residential treatment\, partial hospitalization (PHP)\, intensive outpatient (IOP)\, and outpatient care. \nSupport Treatment Planning & Referrals: Consider how diagnosis\, symptom severity\, medical risk\, and developmental stage inform treatment decisions and interdisciplinary collaboration. \nWhat Past Participants Say: \n“This was so excellent—Marissa was amazing. Thank you!” \n“I learned so much! Great overview of many different treatment modalities.” \n  \n\n\nPricing\n\nThis seminar is offered as a companion to How to Diagnose an Eating Disorder with Jacob Pine\, LCSW. Together\, the two programs provide a foundational pathway from recognizing early warning signs and evaluating complex presentations to understanding treatment modalities and levels of care. Each seminar may be taken independently. Participants who register for both programs will receive a discounted bundled rate. Build a stronger foundation for recognizing\, assessing\, and responding to eating disorders.\n\n \n\n\nIf the cost of this event presents a financial barrier\, please contact CSAB@ICPNYC.ORG. We are happy to offer a reduced rate when needed. \n*ICP Community includes: Current faculty\, supervisors\, and alumni (graduated within the last 5 years \n\n\n\n\nPresenter\n\nMarissa Sappho is the Co-Founder & Director of Clinical Services at Aurora Center NYC\, specializing in yoga-based treatment for Binge Eating Disorder. SUMMARY:SICP Friday Lecture: Erotic Entanglements: Traversing the Forcefield of Dependency and Desire
DESCRIPTION:SICP Friday Lecture:\nErotic Entanglements: Traversing the Forcefield of Dependency and Desire\,\nwith Sarah Schoen\, Ph.D.\n— Earn 2 NYS CE Credits —\nat ICP\nfrom 7 – 9 pm EST\nREGISTER HERE\n  \nPlease note: This event will not be streamed or recorded. \nHow can psychoanalytic clinicians engage the generative potentials of eroticism while navigating the intensity\, ambiguity\, and anxiety that accompany such experiences? In this presentation\, Dr. Schoen explores how erotic material can carry both defensive and progressive meanings\, with the aim of expanding clinicians’ capacities to invite\, tolerate\, and think about erotic dynamics in the analytic relationship. Drawing on contemporary relational and developmental perspectives\, Dr. Schoen will present a detailed clinical account illustrating sexuality’s dense entanglement with basic issues of vitality and coming alive. Developmental trauma\, sexual charge\, disintegrative anxieties\, core fantasies of transformation\, and concretized longings for physical touch permeate eroticism in the space of breakdown.Highlighting how both patient and analyst regulate anxiety by avoiding these unstable intersections\, Dr. Schoen proposes that it is through delving into these overlaps that the central issues of being and becoming can emerge. \n \n  \nSarah Schoen\, Ph.D.\, is Faculty\, Supervising\, and Training Analyst at the William Alanson White Institute\, Adjunct Clinical Professor of Psychology at the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis\, and Invited Faculty at the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. SUMMARY:SICP Friday Lecture: Wrestling with the Body: When Somatic Preoccupation Serves as an Escape
DESCRIPTION:SICP Friday Lecture\nWrestling with the Body:\nWhen Somatic Preoccupation Serves as an Escape\nAbigail Walch\, Amy Ragsdale\, Diana Halperin & Jess Eipper.\nFriday\, November 13\, 2026\nfrom 7 – 9 PM\nIn-person at ICP\nRegister Here \nRefreshments and conversation following the lecture. \nPlease note: This event will not be streamed or recorded. \nHow do clinicians work with patients whose bodily preoccupation serves a dissociative function and threatens to overwhelm the treatment? While psychoanalysis has historically diminished the importance of the body\, this presentation grapples with the challenges of listening to and thinking psychoanalytically about somatic manifestations. Through clinical vignettes from four distinct treatments\, this presentation will explore difficulties in symbolizing somatic expressions for both patient and analyst\, as well as illustrate ways therapists can utilize their own somatic experiences\, countertransference reverie\, and theoretical reframing as therapeutic tools and means of creating transitional space. \nBy situating these bodily manifestations within a psychoanalytic framework\, the presentation will demonstrate efforts to help patients move from unmetabolized somatic expressions and enactments toward an expanded capacity to mentalize. Attendees will gain insight into ways analysts can transform the overwhelmed clinical space into a collaborative arena with potential for psychological integration and symbolic meaning. \n  \nAmy Werner Ragsdale\, LCSW\, is a psychotherapist and psychoanalyst in NYC.
