History/ Mission

In 1977, under an Absolute Charter from the NY State Board of Regents, the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP) began a 4 year Psychoanalytic Training program for qualified post-graduate candidates desiring to pursue, in an atmosphere of collegial community, contemporary classical, relational, and interpersonal theories of analytical study.

Today, ICP offers potential Analytic candidates a New York state accredited track leading to license in Psychoanalysis (LP). ICP finds itself a diverse community of mental health professionals dedicated to the pursuit of an ongoing training experience that is clinically expanding and personally transformative. Toward this goal, peer group studies, visiting scholars, enrichment workshops, retreats and an active alumni all contribute to the vibrant, ongoing community of the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy, dedicated to the comparative study of Psychoanalytic theory and technique.

The Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy provides training without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender expression, gender identity or any other classification protected under applicable federal, state and local law.
